Some reports say over 500 schools, 55 libraries, & 25 universities hit.
You can debate the numbers, but hitting Sharif University & Beheshti is like hitting MIT & Stanford. I keep wondering: How would the scientific community respond differently if it was those universities? What’s the difference?

The Orange Cat Brain Atlas is here. 🧠🐈

Today, we published the first comprehensive cellular map of the orange cat brain. The new atlas reveals a single, specialized neuron responsible for behaviors like staring at walls, knocking objects off tables, and the 3am "zoomies."

Cosyne 2026 - Cosyne Tutorial: Comparative Analysis of Neural Population Codes YouTube video by Cosyne Talks

Cosyne invited me to give a long tutorial (4 hours!) on methods to quantify differences high-d neural recordings across animals, brain regions, deep neural nets, etc.

The recording is up on youtube. I hope it inspires more research on this fundamental topic!

I am a pro-AI guy who often gets pigeonholed as an anti-AI guy. I am pro developing and using AI for things AI is good at. I am anti developing and using AI for things that will bring on another AI winter, a mild economic collapse, and make us all look like schmucks in ~5 years.

I really want ppl w/o Minneapolis connections to understand

You might've heard that Mpls public schools went hybrid bc so many families are in hiding. Well, a coworker just told me that today, during his kid's hybrid class, a kid's apt building was raided onscreen

The woman killed by ICE was Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year old who was the mother of a 4-year old child whose father already died a few years ago.

The Star Tribune talked to her mother. www.startribune.com/she-was-an-a...

A meta-analysis of studies using Tolman’s sunburst maze suggests poor replicability and little evidence for shortcutting. Ouch! Definitely relevant reading for anyone interested in cognitive maps! 👇

Given the popularity and centrality of neuronal calcium imaging to systems and cellular neuroscience, it is shockingly under-modelled. Makes me nervous about the conclusions from those studies.

At least the fMRI BOLD interpretation gets routinely debated...

Are manifolds real?
Are latent circuits real?
Tatiana @engeltatiana.bsky.social uses one, infers the other, and says yes to both.

Also, how timescales are different and the same across the entire brain...

My baby #JuliaLang package got an award!
DifferentiationInterface.jl just received a national prize for open-source research software and I couldn't be prouder. We started this from a vague dream with @adrianhill.de, and reached 1000 dependents and 100k downloads last month.
Research != just papers.

Simulation-based inference has really become a commonly used tool for parameter inference across many fields and applications. We (finally...) got together to write a tutorial introduction and guide to (hopefully) help users get started and navigate the different methods and diagnostics!
