In my early days as an editor, I once made a typo for the ages, and it ended up in the book. Just ask the Massachusetts Department of PUBLIC Works. Which is the correct spelling. I know that now.

I know it's unhealthy and dumb to keep checking, but I check. I hate that I check. I really relate to this: "I start rewriting things in my head. Not the proposal. Me. Who I am, what I’ve done, how I measure up. I shrink to fit the silence." Nicely said!
