Part of my work at Marshall & my consulting as Kimbap includes helping orgs write better, more inclusive job postings.
I'm incredibly proud to have had a hand in creating this posting for ED of @transjournalists.org--I hope you'll take a peek and apply or share it! airtable.com/apppaTdSPRyF...

Heading to #NICAR25? @ecg.bsky.social, @jamiegreytv.bsky.social & I will be teaching our @ire-nicar.bsky.social master class on “Managing Investigators.” This time, it’s byte-sized (data joke), FREE and right before our management meetup! Join us: bit.ly/4hHaks9 😊
Hi! Quick note: The Onion accidentally posted a stock photo from a vendor with an AI generated image in it. We pulled the post down once we found that out. Our commitment to not using AI is very real. It's in the union contract to disclose it if we ever do. World is a slop minefield and we're sorry.
If you're just getting started as a local journalist who wants to do better accountability reporting on criminal justice in your community, start here: www.themarshallproject.org/2024/07/25/l...
Reach out to @michellebillman.bsky.social for more details!!!
How does the model work? For our team, it's called Investigate This! www.themarshallproject.org/investigate-..., where The Marshall Project publishes "everything you need" to iterate on our stories and localize them.
This ranges from datasets, local story angles, sourcing suggestions, visuals, etc
The good folks at Nieman invited my prediction for next year. So here's what I'm excited about: a boom for local investigative and data-driven journalism made possible through partnerships and support from teams like The Marshall Project, The Trace & Big Local News www.niemanlab.org/2024/12/loca...

NGL i cannot tell if i paid enough to get paper copies......
I was not this smart or collected at age 16 -- perhaps I am not even so at age 37 now.
L.W. spoke of wanting to engage with her opposers:
“I just don’t understand,” L.W. said. “What’s the worst they can say to me? I’ve heard it all.”
Gutting www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2024/...
As a rule of thumb, I don't engage in grave dancing -- I think it's bad karma.
However, this piece raises some really smart and timely points, tying the reactions to Brian Thompson's murder to the celebratory posts we saw when Henry Kissinger passed last year.
I’ve always loved this so much about New York. 9/11 can happen and everyone will still be lile “well, time for egg and cheese sandwich”
rest well and find peace

LISTEN NOW: The US Supreme Court hears arguments in US v. Skrmetti, on whether Tennessee's ban on gender-affirming care for trans minors violates the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. www.supremecourt.gov/oral_argumen...
My brilliant colleague @journo-beth.bsky.social is curating and posting around the SCOTUS arguments today... Give Beth a follow!!
"When you're 1% of the population, hard to see how the democratic process will protect you." --Sonia Sotomayor
Wondering what's happening with the U.S. vs. Skrmetti Supreme Court case this week?
Here are some resources 🧵
I really enjoyed what came next though: the lady colleagues got together and taught Meredith Grey how to negotiate for a better salary.
CAN YOU IMAGINE 5, 10, 20 years ago...a TV show explicitly teaching women that they're worth the same salaries as men, AND how to obtain those numbers????
KOREA!!!! wyd....
so... I don't really have any interesting comment to offer on the situation!
For those just tuning in: I'm an American born in Korea, and I typically work out of the US. This week I am working out of Seoul. I have no particular expertise in Korean politics.
Me being at the protests during the declaration of martial law is just a weird fucking thing that happened.
Wonder if news editors are going to realize people knew about an actual coup an hour-plus earlier on bluesky than twitter. Hearing a lot of that rumbling from old friends still in the legacy content mines today.
TIL my insurance-preferred mail order pharmacy just "doesn't do" overnight shipping!!! In the year of our goddess, 2024!!!!!
EVEN when it is *their own damn fault* that you have been without your meds for nearly a month...
Rewatching Grey’s Anatomy as a sad weird coping mechanism, and dang, S12 is full of fascinating lady leadership storylines!
Passing of the chief torch to a woman for the first time, then going on to lowball Meredith Grey on her big promotion, her lady colleagues struggling to help her through it
Sweet baby niece and nephew arts are truly priceless!!!!!
Why are men so emotional
Cops pepper spraying college football players is all the proof you need that they can’t de-escalate a damn thing.
I’m just saying, he’s one dude. This means, he comes with his own limitations and biases in place. Without owning those and examining their influence, this isn’t a good faith effort. It’s just an attempt to be first and loudest.
A thing that worries me is while so many are transitioning away from X, is we will see our communities and infrastructure designed and iterated upon by those who rushed in and started talking loudly.
How can we make space for those who build community differently, with inclusion and intention?
