taking a solo in a jazz combo/ensemble always feels so unfair 😭 horn players can just focus on improv, but keys?? we gotta improv AND accompany ourselves. why can't anything be easy.....

is it just me or does nostalgia sometimes feel haunting? like... it's a lovely reminder of a pleasant time/perspective long past, yet it's persistently haunting that you'll never find it again. a snapshot of an era you deeply crave to return to, permanently out of reach.

anyway happy thursday LMAO

very frustrating that none of my favorite activities are reliably lucrative. could've been passionate about computer science or finance, but i'm cursed to be passionate about music and learning scottish gaelic instead

A screenshot from the Bandcamp website where I'm given the option to add multiple genre tags. After entering around 8 tags, I receive error text saying "OK, settle down. Please limit yourself to 5 tags, no more."

today's thing to overthink: to find work, what is the ideal ratio of "able to write music in any style/genre" to "having my own distinct artistic sound"

"wΓ " is another form of "to be" (location) but "wΓ‘" means "to come"!

so many important words are the same with small changes in pitch or vowel pronunciation!!!

it's a fun challenge, and it reminds me of learning mandarin, but the essentials all being so similar is an immediate steep learning curve

i love learning languages, but my own tribal language (yoruba) is probably the toughest that i've studied.

"ni" is a form of "to be", but "nΓ" means "to have" AND "in/at"

"mo" is regular "i", but "mọ" is "to know"

"n" is the negative form of "i", but "Ε„" is the present progressive tense marker

ofc, "bad" in an artistic sense is ridiculously subjective and amorphous but that somehow doesn't stop me from being afraid of it. in fact, that makes it all the more frightening because i can't see "bad" coming until it's suddenly here

my teacher brain is infecting my artist brain

teacher brain: do thing in a way => develop habit
artist brain: write bad music => develop habit of writing bad music

i'm too afraid to make things because they might be bad!! i gotta write a ton of music and get better!!!

i've seen a lot of negativity on this in the past few years but i'm gonna be honest.....

i love "wonderful christmastime". it's one of my season faves. the synths are fun and it's goofy and it puts a smile on my face. forgive my whimsy

this takes a lot of inspo from animal crossing OSTs, btw!

- pop dominant voicings (sus11 or sus13 slash chords, e.g. Fmaj7/G or Bb/C)

- unresolved (often dominant function) chords sustained on weak beats

- tonicization/modal interchange, pedal tones

analyzing and writing it is so much fun...

arcangelo corelli - sonata da chiesa a tre, op. 3 no. 11 in g minor: ii. presto

i had a project back in college connecting baroque counterpoint and 8-bit vgm/chiptune music due to tech constraints! so i made this arrangement of a corelli trio sonata 🎻

Proud to have worked on the score, sound design, mix, and title theme for this episode of Animation Station at @shockwaveanimation.bsky.social!

I'm especially proud of the title theme; such a rewarding end product. Here's a little peek behind the scenes!

i'll always have a soft spot for shows i grew up with like little bear, charlie & lola, miss spider's sunny patch friends, max & ruby, etc. and that lives on in the widespread appreciation of bluey! shows that have something for parents, too. plus they're just super soothing hahaha
