There are *physical* measurements here. This isn't vibes or hot takes. People INCLUDING CHILDREN have experienced impairments that affect how they concentrate, learn, and remember.

Corvids are so cool. Hot damn
And they *will* get paid, because Trump won't be the one signing the check.

My solution to middle management is not to get rid of middle managers in companies big enough to need them.
My solution is to leave and join a company small enough to not need middle managers yet!
I worked hard to fill my "Following" feed with folks who were smart, educated, unconventional, and glib.
Now when I come to bsky for a little light microblogging, I see what you all have written, and close it again.
I just can't compete. You rock.
A screenshot from Aliens, Ripley looking at the little radar box showing how close the aliens are. six metres! five! that's inside the room!

the relevance remains—if went to a no kings event and didn’t wear a mask, PLEASE take multiple rapid tests or get a PCR/NAAT some time this week. there are plenty of things spreading in the air thanks to our collapsing heath systems, including sars-cov-2:

Realistically this is probably our best hope for more seasons with *something like* the original cast. I just hope it's done well.

a snippet of a mini-comic, at top - straight line stretches from point A to B. Immediately below, same dot at A, then becomes a curving, meandering line that winds through the page and ends at a point with rays and a question mark emanating from it. Text reads: "Nothing can do this for you - for that robs you of experience and conflates answers with learning. Rather, it's all the decisions you make along the way, the mistakes, struggles, and surprises! These pathways you create - this is learning. https://spinweaveandcut.com/fall-2025-syllabi/
In case anyone needs it for their syllabi, my statement in gen-Ai from the minicomic I made as a syllabus for class last semester. All online and printable here spinweaveandcut.com/fall-2025-sy...
Holy moly this chart: Cumulative US measles cases
THREAD: I got laid off from NYMag/Vulture after 14 years. The family lost 75% of income + medical. Now mzs.press bookstore, once a side project. is do-or-die for Judith & I. I feel weird telling you this because others are doing much worse. But if you could like or share this, we'd be so grateful!
As you may already know, "New research [by UCLA team] shows that after the body’s defenses kill the virus behind COVID-19, leftover digested chunks of SARS-CoV-2 spike protein can target specific immune cells based on their shape.. The team’s findings build on an earlier UCLA discovery identifying 'zombie' coronavirus fragments that can imitate the activity of molecules from the body’s own immune system to drive inflammation.. not only have the researchers shown that human immune enzymes can break down the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein into such fragments, they found that some fragments can work together to attack important types of immune cells by targeting their cell shapes." We are living with the zombie coronavirus. 'COVID-19 viral fragments shown to target and kill specific immune cells in UCLA-led study'

I tried watching (modern) Matlock but the whole “opioids are the devil that should be wiped off the face of the earth” storyline was so fucking ableist it made me want to scream every time it came up - and it was like the entire conceit of the plot.
That having been said, I need to upgrade my llama.cpp and run some of these evals again, because it's possible that the new PEG parser might make a difference.
Take this with a grain of salt. I've been evaluating Qwen3.5 27B, 35B-A3B, and (currently) 122B-A10B, and they're useful, but not great.
The complaints you might have heard about 3.5 spending too much time in thinking-phase is a feature, not a bug; blather scores higher on benchmarks.

Nah, it's fine. One one hand, yeah, you're vagueposting, but on the other hand that's not what stands out. Mostly you're just coming across as adult, thoughtful, and compassionate.
Graph of award probability of R35 and R01 from NIH factbook as a function of review rank percentile. As is apparent, 2025 is a significant departure, with lower award probabilities at all scores <40 and significant departures from norm, where even being in the top 10% is no longer a nearly certain indicator of success. Data source: https://report.nih.gov/nihdatabook/report/302
The data is in: the NIH goalposts have shifted.
What were once almost certain fundable scores have become coin flips and what used to be likely grants have become aspirational, leading to fewer awards.
Another manifestation of how HHS policies have led to fewer awards and less science.
I was wondering what impact the spread of #measles might have on the #SARS-CoV-2 #pandemic, and it turns out someone already modeled that:
pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...
That's for the original strain, though; Omicron might be worse, but hopefully not.

I keep seeing studies
which find how Covid
damages the brain
and the lungs
and the heart,
and a new study finds
it raises the risk
of kidney disease too,
all of which is why
you will find me
still wearing a mask.
The eternal question of Chinese take-out:
How much of it do you eat, vs keep to scramble into eggs later?
My rule of thumb is to keep about 5%, but no large pieces (since those scramble less well), and no water chestnuts (since those add too much water).
Mongolian Beef goes best in eggs, IMO.
