it was never a valid argument, it's a way to end a debate with a catchy phrase, a substitution for reasoning. do not let them. arm yourself with the knowledge to recognize and vaporize bs like this. share your knowledge with others, empower each other, and don't ever stop learning

e.g. has your parent ever told you "other people have it worse"? this feels wrong, but without the knowledge to counter it, we're forced to accept it

but there is a term for this: thought-terminating cliché, a phrase you repeat to yourself so you can stop thinking critically

when something *feels* wrong to us, lacking the words to describe it doesn't make it right
