The Cats of New Orleans A story-driven cooperative boardgame of feline adventurers, bayou danger, and voodoo-soaked mystery.

It's a co-op tactical combat game played with figures on grid maps in a spiral-bound book, connected by interactive story choices, all set in an anthropomorphic 19th-century New Orleans.

Finland ends homelessness and provides shelter for all in need - scoop.me In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Why? The country applies the "Housing First" concept agains homelessness.

“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back to a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

IT SAVES PUBLIC MONEY to house people.

When simulation becomes the norm, it weakens the human capacity for discernment. As a result, our social bonds close in upon themselves, forming self-referential circuits that no longer expose us to reality. We thus come to live within bubbles, impermeable to one another. Feeling threatened by anyone who is different, we grow unaccustomed to encounter and dialogue. In this way, polarization, conflict, fear and violence spread. What is at stake is not merely the risk of error, but a transformation in our very relationship with truth.

Two hooded figures with lamps approach a moonlit, isolated cottage.
A woman answers the door.
We have come for the child, says the hooded figure
So soon? she asks
It is time, says the hooded figure.
The woman is distraught. We should never have got him a library card!
What is done cannot be undone, says the hooded figure
We couldn’t see the harm! We just wanted him to enjoy reading!
For most, it ends there, says the hooded figure, turning away and walking into the wilderness
Oh lord, What have I done! says the woman,
the child walks past her and out into the darkness with them.
Do not cry mother.
I am a writer now.

Almost a year of uncertainty over the future of board game publisher Greater than Games has been partially resolved, with Flat River Group selling the brand name, and the rights for the Sentinels of the Multiverse titles, to Handelabra Games:

the human made icon

the human made icon

I want to be a better steward for the Human Made icon. If you have any ideas on how I can get the word out for it more please let me know. Do you think game retailers would be interested in stickers they could pass out? folks interested in pins? What can I do to support you using this icon? a zine?

And distinguishing the different kinds of AI is important, also!

Machine learning has SO much potential and power! I love seeing people use it to do analysis in areas where humans would take forever, fail, and/or make significant mistakes.

But current Gen AI is mostly infuriating to me.

This also explains (one of many reasons) why I won't shop at Wal-Mart. 😒

Yeah, AI's a scam. Getting folks to see that, well... it's as hard as getting people to not support horrible companies like Wal-Mart. 😔

(They're also charging corps for dedicated instances, getting some money there.)

It is a profound irony when the nation under attack feels more empathy for the attacker's citizens than the attacking government itself.

As a systems designer I think a lot about how social safety nets could be efficiently deployed to a large population. You could save so much money on administration by just giving everyone a basic income.

It also support local businesses, improves the quality of life, and is great for the economy.
