Wishing everyone a happy Fourth of July!

249 years since we declared independence from a king, the work of living up to our founding promise is more important than ever - and it calls on each of us to do what we can for our country.

Essentially 100% of patients I see for substance use are on Medicaid (or uninsured & working to get on Medicaid). Most cannot afford their lifesaving medications without coverage & I’ve seen devastating results from coverage lapses in the past. This bill’s new “requirements” are going to kill people

History Shows the Danger of Trump's Health Policies The medical achievements of the 20th century demonstrate how global health infrastructure is key to public health.

Fantastic to see that Time has published an opinion piece by one of our MPH students, Luke Carl Jorgensen, reflecting on how the past can inform us about the impact of current policy implementation.

Same-sex marriage is under attack by state lawmakers, emboldened by Trump’s anti-LGBTQ+ measures and the Supreme Court’s willingness to overturn precedent President Donald Trump’s second term and the Supreme Court’s conservative activism have lit a fire in Republicans, who are targeting same-sex marriage as part of a broader attack on LGBTQ+ rights.

About 70% of Americans approve of same-sex marriages. Despite this, Republican lawmakers in 5 states introduced symbolic bills calling on the Supreme Court to overturn its 2015 ruling legalizing same-sex marriage. A scholar explains: buff.ly/q76uFwD

A reminder for this Transgender Day of Visibility:

Trans people have always existed, and we always will.

No president, politician, or court can change that.

The Chaos of NIH Cuts Has Left Early-Career Scientists Scrambling As graduate programs lose spots and labs face shutdowns following Trump administration cuts to science funding, the path to a science career for students and researchers just got a whole lot harder.

This is what breaks my heart. These young people who are so eager and full of promise and who are the next generation of Nobel Prize winners, scientists inventors, teachers. #Trump and #Musk have destroyed it all. www.wired.com/story/the-ch...

The Consequences of Federal Funding Cuts to HIV/AIDS Research
The Consequences of Federal Funding Cuts to HIV/AIDS Research YouTube video by Boston University School of Public Health

The NIH have terminated hundreds of HIV-related research projects. The damage is irreparable. Soon, we will see delays in scientific progress and difficulties in training the next generation of scientists. Even worse, hundreds of thousands of people will die. youtu.be/q9icRYpLIbY?...

The speed at which NIH is terminating in-progress HIV-related grants is truly horrifying. This is not a shift in future priorities—they are abruptly cutting off studies originally competitively funded because of their high scientific impact that are already underway. taggs.hhs.gov/Content/Data...
