I think I've come to the conclusion before that it's causative, and [us part] is a small clause β otherwise the case on 'us' is mysterious

actually I remain uncertain if the 'do' is a light verb/tense thing, or if it's a causative like 'make'
yes I think I may have even finished grad school by the time I figured that one out
fwiw I was a grad student when I finally pieced together that "have you any wool" was a polar question about possession
there was middling faculty support for the protests last week; this week, everyone is ready to go absolutely apeshit (rhetorically and administratively speaking, of course)

I love this. Both in itself, and juxtaposed to throwing batteries at Santa.
So Utah, having passed a transphobic bathroom bill, has launched an online form for people to snitch on folks they think are in the "wrong" bathroom or locker room. Be a real shame if people on the Internet flooded it with fake reports: ut-sao-special-prod.web.app/sex_basis_co...
Talia Jane @taliaotg on Twitter 13 Princeton students arrested during a peaceful sit-in correcting the record on their demo, disingenuously described by admin as not peaceful. "All 13 of us were arrested & charged with "defiant trespassing." We prayed & sang together while zip-tied & handcuffed."
Princeton students correct the record on being characterized as defiant / threatening / dangerous

I don't know how to say that this is sincere, but this is sincere:
I'm glad that there are people doing radical acts to push our country / society / world to be better β I'm trying to be one of them, and I often wish I was doing more
to be clear: stuck with them for now
we need to tear down the buses that we are trapped on while we build the high speed rail
I did not call you stupid, I never would. I don't know you.
in fact, I was calling the movie smarter than me.
I was agreeing with you that America has always been genocide
I am saying to move away from it we need to work in the system we are still trapped in until we can break out
I don't know why you think I am not fighting? why you think I don't want to fight?
I work inside the system while we break it down
if you want a better articulation of what I mean, the Matrix did it better
I didn't say anything like that?
I said we should be moving away from genocide, which means that's where we've been? that's literally the entire point of that post
I vote with eyes wide open. the other option is to abdicate the small amount of power that I am currently allocated.
I didn't say it was inevitable
I said we are stuck with our current system for now. we need to work it as best we can.
while we also break it apart and rebuild it while it's moving so that it, at minimum, doesn't take us to genocide.
we disagree that there are other buses available at the moment
I never said don't protest
scroll back on my TL even a little and you'll say that I'm saying: actively protest, fuck shit up, everything is terrible right now. the problem is concentrated power. so my current (not only) goal is vote in people who'd be more susceptible to pressure by the people.
yes I agree that we're both saying neither does
we need a high speed rail, but we are stuck with these shitty buses at least until November
you don't know my life and I don't know yours. I don't want to start fights with people, but rather discussions about opinions.
hi yes, I do listen to trans people. part of listening is knowing that there are multiple types of trans people with multiple types of opinions, and I did not mean to represent all trans people as a monolith, which is why I deleted that post that could be read as saying that.
100%. we need a high speed rail. one with no genocide.
we are stuck with shitty buses that don't take us where we ought to be.
I should know better than to make a nuanced point on here.
no one is trying to understand each other well enough. (I am including myself here.) the medium doesn't allow it.
In fact, staying home and sulking isnβt even an option in this analogy. Youβre getting on a bus whether you like it or not. None of the buses are going where you want to go, and theyβre all more or less on fire, but you can vote for one thatβs less on fire or let everyone else decide without you.
I'm so sad about the world. I want it to change in so many ways. until we can make big changes in the right direction, the changes we can make will be painfully slow. people will hurt & bad things will happenβ but there are worse paths to walk too. how do we find paths that do the least damage?
"Trump is worse" β "Biden is good"
voting in Nov is a choice btw 2 individuals. that sucks & I'd like to change that, but impossible before Nov.
it's a zero sum game, so votes matter desperately. saying nothing is real or everything is bad so I'm not voting is giving them what they want.
saying Trump is worse is not defending Biden. it's not hard.
if you think I'm not a minority then you need to step off. I am not white. I am not straight.
