4-panel SMBC comic update. Two men, one in a green-blue shirt and the other one with a mustache and glasses, are talking outside. The man with the green-blue shirt says the he thinks modern media is killing attention spans and making people stupid. The man with the mustache replies that people said that about all forms of media including books and the printing press. He then mentions a fire on his head, adding "is the fire growing? Maybe. But you could have said that 4 seconds ago. Or six seconds ago. Or twelve seconds ago." The other man says he was going to ask about that, as we see the man with the mustache pose for his phone, responding with "it's called content Dave."

The key is to put the self-on-fire at the beginning of the video and promise to show that it technically cures cancer, but only if you watch to the end without skipping.

Monty Python - Politicians: An Apology
Monty Python - Politicians: An Apology YouTube video by pbracuti

Long ago, Monty Python issued a heartfelt apology.
And here it is:

(We apologize for the poor image quality. In no way should it imply that the BBC is doing a bad job. We categorically deny any baseless accusations that the BBC wastes public money on making garbage.)

Book Review: THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE by Richard Condon Once unbelievable... now unthinkable?... the chilling classic/satire returns

I know this is going to sound nutty, but there are interesting parallels between American politics today and the plot of Richard Condon's Cold War thriller THE MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE.

Of course, the Russians have also read the book.
What if it... inspired them?

The worst thing you can do to an active social media user is to completely ignore them.

(I also think that “Mute” is more powerful than “Block”, since the muted person can’t do the “You mad bro?” song and dance.)

Media Tip:

If you like THE X-FILES, check out the short-lived 1996 thriller show NOWHERE MAN. Bruce Greenwood plays the hunted protagonist whose life is turned upside down by a mysterious conspiracy. (Hint: YouTube…)

Good stuff.

This book was written to entertain. It’s got war, romance, sci-fi, a dastardly villain, an everyman hero… and a bit of satire.

Book Review: THE THREE STIGMATA OF PALMER ELDRITCH by Philip K. Dick The nightmare of the now in the future of yesterday

THE THREE STIGMATA OF PALMER ELDRITCH works as a parable for our time - not in the specific technical details, but in the feeling of being invaded by a narcissistic madman, who wants to be everywhere, in everyone's head - whether they like it or not:

2-panel SMBC comic update. A woman is writing on paper, sitting at a table with a knitting ball and a spool placed in front of her. A man walks by, holding an open laptop. The women says "I wish I could make a living on crafting. People should appreciate the human touch" to which the man replies, smugly "learn to code." The second panel starts with a narrative box saying "later, when all cognitive tasks have been automated." The man is flabbergasted, saying "people only want to pay workers for the human touch." The woman, now seated on a comfortable chair, holding a knitting ball, wearing sunglasses, responds "learn to knit artisanal socks biiiiiiiitch!"
