i still think we just see a sort of lower and lower tech air warfare getting established (like the air littoral but i had that phrase) which sees a similiar development of WW1 and WW2 air warfare. Next thing is more "cheap" SEAD, interceptors and escort drones

also the J-6 is pretty rugged but they are stationed in a very densely populated area if this is for target shooting i would expect that they are kept air worthy enough to not crash in some urban center and some 18-22 year old PLAAF maintainer probably expected to see a J-7 again
