That's a powerful and poignant connection, Rose. Rebecca Solnit is indeed a great Sherpa for the mind. I’ll definitely read the book, thank you!

Spot on about the 'nest' metaphor. But there’s a vital difference between flying solo and being left to drift without a compass. From now on, I'll be flying 'as if' I have a guide, while actually navigating the entire journey on my own :)

I've decided to have a direct conversation with him in the coming days. It’s a difficult step after a decade of respect, but necessary to resolve this impasse. I really appreciate your perspective.

Due to ethical sensitivities at my university, I have no one to talk to about this; I shared it here simply to find some relief. Just receiving a response like yours lightens my burden significantly.

Thank you, Tony. You've given me a lot to think about. Taking control is indeed the only way forward. Our relationship was ideal for years, but the shift after I declined his request for a specific task to focus on my thesis was stark.

—a task my supervisor should be doing. Now I’m questioning: is it better to endure the silence to finish on time, or risk starting over for the sake of intellectual growth? I haven't decided on a path yet, but the status quo is becoming heavier by the day.

My PhD supervisor, someone I’ve deeply respected since my undergrad days, has become little more than a signature machine since last summer. After I chose my thesis over an extra task, the guidance vanished.
Deprived of mentorship, I now use peer reviews from top-tier journals to diagnose my flaws>

The way we see things is affected by what we know or what we believe. 🌾

I’m going to watch it again tonight in a quiet hour, with a cup of rosemary tea I’ve just gathered from my garden. It feels so much more meaningful now to sit with your insights and treasures. I’m so glad our paths crossed. Blessèd be. ♥️

Tony, your words have truly changed the way I see the film. The idea that 'remembering' is what we need to find that glimmer of light in the darkness is such a beautiful and guiding thought.

The line "He loves me for what I am, not what I ought to be" resonates deeply.
I am profoundly touched to be included in your dedication alongside Su and your family. To be a small part of your magical realm is an honour I will always cherish. Thank you for this beautiful gift of words. Blessèd be.❤️

Tony, this is truly a masterpiece of atmosphere and heart. You haven't just written about a film;you’ve brought to life a world of ancient wisdom and deep belonging. I was particularly moved by the way you described the lineage of the wise-women and the sacred connection between Agnes and the forest.

I’m so happy to see your excitement, Tony! No rush at all—just enjoy the process whenever it feels right for you. 🌾♥️

If watching the film a few more times just for yourself is what feels good, then that is exactly what you should do. Your peace of mind matters most to me. ❤️

Our conversations here and the way you share your world with me are already deeply precious to me. Please, only write if it brings you genuine joy and energy—not because of a sense of obligation.

Tony, please don’t feel any debt or guilt about the blog post. I am so touched that you would consider doing it for me, but the last thing I want is for our friendship to feel like a source of 'work' or exhaustion for you.
Your well-being is much more important than any output.

After what you’ve written, I will definitely watch the film again with this new perspective.

That is so moving to hear, Tony. Thank you for sharing such a personal connection. I now see the film in a completely different light—it's clearly more about the 'material' reality and the atmosphere of a life lived than just the directorial style.

I know you haven't written on your blog for a long time, Tony, but I wish you would write a long post about this film. Since it covers your favorite historical period and you loved it so much, it would be great to read your detailed perspective on it.

That makes total sense, Tony. Given your deep connection to the Tudor period, I can see why the film resonated with you so much. I guess I was looking at it more through the lens of the director's evolution, but I'm happy it was such a great experience for you!

I’m so glad you enjoyed it! I agree that the acting was great. For me, however, it felt a bit more mainstream compared to The Rider and lacked that unique perspective I was looking for. But it's great that it lived up to your expectations!

People who can't evolve often try to pull others down to their level to feel better about their own stagnation. It’s sad that they’re family, but it’s best to keep your distance. Hugs 💚

Glad you’re okay, though it’s heartbreaking to think of the overall situation. My heart is heavy for everyone there. Stay safe and take care.

The current situation is very concerning. Are you and your family safe, Karim?

But despite the success of its visual effects, it is completely weak scientifically. What I liked was how it broke clichés with its alien design. It is an emotional space-buddy story. It offers viewing pleasure, but little else.

I watched Project Hail Mary. Technically, it isn't very good, with its disjointed scenes and a fantastical narrative that glosses over the laws of physics. It tips its hat to the communication aesthetics of Arrival and Spielberg’s musical spirit. >
