For the sake of a story, a few years back Google invented a cool new tool called "Address Sanitizer". It's job? To hunt for major cybersecurity bugs, at giant scale, in important programs. To date it has found *hundreds of thousands* of bugs, in basically every piece of software you've ever used.

Difficult to emphasize just how much a generation of kids has been taught that being dishonest, superficial, and narcissistic is the pathway to attention and therefore success

Came across the phrase "cognitive DDOS" to describe our present culture.

I keep having to justify why I want to go to conferences outside the USA and the simple answer is "Many of the people it would be helpful to talk to are no longer able to enter the USA"

The changed code is a small fraction of an open source contribution. Your commitment to understand the issue, how your proposed solution fits with the project, and be ready to own and push the review process forward is the biggest chunk of the work. Your effort is the contribution, not the code.

Just want to take a moment and give the @wiresharkfoundation.org a shout-out for having AWESOME documentation.

I absolutely love it when official docs include clear and concise explanations, including "hey here's this common issue, why it happens, and a few ways to work around it."

I don’t know if anyone else notices or cares, but when I see a presentation in which the speaker uses obviously generated-AI images to illustrate their slides, it makes me immediately less confident in whatever other content they’re presenting.

Pro tip: Putting a knot in your conference badge lanyard raises it up & makes it easier to read.
