Renewable energy has overtaken coal to become the world’s largest source of electricity in 2025, according to thinktank Ember.
In this video, Carbon Brief’s @mollylempriere.carbonbrief.org reports on Ember’s analysis.

Had another planning meeting for the Ilkley screening last night. Should be a fantastic event - filling up, a great range of local groups and MP signed up. Great film. Check the @nebriefing.bsky.social website for screenings, and think if you can setup a screening - or help an existing one.
Good to see this clearly stating limits to our food supplies, "it must be acknowledged that there are the profound barriers & limits to adaptation", "there are also ‘hard’ physiological and ecological limits that no amount of adaptation can surmount." www.theguardian.com/world/2026/a...
Good spot. I'd missed that. Post deleted
Agreed. But if I'm right that IPCC "unliklely" means 0 to 33% chance, I'd also say that language should change. Are you "unlikely" to due playing russian roulette with two bullets? I don't think that's the words most people would use! Risk is critical here, not prediction &uncertainty
Can't see why this isn't reported on bbc news website? @markpoynting.bsky.social
Fantastic interview. Well worth a listen.
MPs were warned of this risk at the @nebriefing.bsky.social , but most didn't go. See if there is an @nebriefing.bsky.social screening near you. Ask you MP to go
Still silence from bbc news on this story I think?!
A HUGE, narrative-breaking moment for the UK car market
New EVs are now cheaper than petrol cars on average, says Autotrader
Last yr CCC said price parity was due by 2028 – and it's already here
And EVs are already MUCH cheaper to run than petrol
A reminder, the security services advised Theresa May Johnson was a security risk before she appointed him Foreign Secretary, they advised against giving Lebedev a peerage, he got one, Johnson misled (lied to you and me) about what he knew about Pincher when he made him Deputy Chief Whip.
www.bbc.co.uk/news/article... also has in big bold font "The hidden cost of clean power" before later in small font "While the cost of renewables plays a part, the principal driver for this [price increases] is, ironically, gas itself." without showing a figure like this
@markpoynting.bsky.social
Shocking that BBC article
www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
doesn't mention recent CCC report "Cost of Net Zero by 2050 less than a single fossil fuel price shock" www.theccc.org.uk/2026/03/11/cost-of-net-z... @markpoynting.bsky.social
We need politicians and the public to uderstand the full urgency of the climate crisis. And the fact the solutions are there. Supporting the @nebriefing.bsky.social is a good start

Looking forward to Ilkley screening in May!
I'd been wanting a good analysis on what the alternatives are to gas setting price of electricity.
As usual @carbonbrief.org has the answer www.carbonbrief.org/qa-why-does-...
graph showing the price of lithium ion batteries has fallen 99% since 1991.
Most people still don't understand what is coming in the world of energy. This graph should help but what would be good is to see this everywhere in the media so the public understood that what they think they know about renewable tech and EVs is not up to date.
New projections of British biodiversity under plausible climate & land-use futures
Severe futures have 12-20% birds, butterflies, plants going extinct & major changes to ecosystems
More sustainable scenarios only decrease & do not stop loss; but require urgent action

Great summary from carbon brief www.carbonbrief.org/factcheck-ni... . Though I think to tackle the new culture war on UK oil/gas I think best to basically frame it as an irelevance. It doesn't help anything. Renewables do.
Heatwaves outside summer don't tend to get so much attention, as they're not all-time records. But impacts can be huge.
It's all relative. Yes they report, yes they mention climate change. No they don't give climate change & fossil fuels the prominence they should, and they don't use events like this to explain outlook for future as a function of our actions
bbc now mention climate change ... at bottom of article. Its like reporting explosions in Iran, but only saying who fired the missiles at the end of the article! www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
We need resilience & just-in-time supply chains not resilient. (We don't know what the shocks will be exactly - but with climate & nature crisis and geopolitics we know they are coming). China - & e.g. Norway - have acted.
UK-renewables key for UK.

Hosting a @nebriefing.bsky.social film with your MP & community is a huge opportunity to show MPs people do care and do want action on climate - both to address the threat's to our welfare that rising temperatures are bringing - and to cut emissions. There's lots of help to do this on NEB webpages.
rightwing media narratives are fuelling a false backlash against climate action
An echo chamber of elite opinion, has led to MPs significantly underestimating public support for climate policies and overestimate public opposition to local clean energy projects
