Great read, disturbing read. Don't expect Danielle Smith to condemn this.

Agreed.
It's the democratic equivalent of lead in the drinking water. The longer we wait to remove it, the more lasting the damage will be.
Batshit Smith is getting ready to steal the next provincial election. Voters beware.
Every Canadian needs to read and understand this. And then help the beautiful people of Fort Chipewyan.

For years the #Conservative govt has repeatedly responded to public backlash by trying to fool Albertans. The #UCP pretend to ‘fix’ the problem but leave large loopholes for the foreign coal companies. Follow the money.

8/8 The glaring contrast between the government's constrained survey format and the raw public anger exposed in these documents sets the stage for a dramatic political showdown this fall.
Public resentment is growing.

"We are being asked to accept permanent environmental damage, long‑term public liability and water risks that can't be engineered away, all to support an industry in structural decline that contributes little in royalties and is largely owned by foreign investors."You tell 'em,@corblund.bsky.social.
Same UCP shit over and over.
TLDR:
"Here's why they aren't showing this real life AB data and trends:
All are getting worse and going in the WRONG direction!
All are life-threatening surgeries that cannot be done in their "always better private" facilities."

Danielle Smith and the UCP hate accountability
So much so, they’re setting themselves up to rig our next election.
Every Albertan needs to stand up and tell them NO.

There is a reason that we do not have MLAs decide on electoral boundaries. Tossing out the Electoral Boundaries Commission and replacing it with a UCP-dominated committee is not just a bad idea. It is really bad for democracy. Ask the US, ask Hungary. This is not normal!
Shortly after Carney became prime minister, planned AI regulations were put on ice along with the online harms bill that sought to address harmful behaviour in online spaces. That was in spite of concretely seeing how those platforms are used by bad actors to sow division

It’s time to speak up, time to sound the alarm, this is a 5-alarm fire. Alberta’s New Democrats are calling on all Albertans, all political leaders, and all Canadians who believe in democracy to speak up now.
I’m so friggin tired of speaking up. Letters, phone calls, protests; none of it seems to matter. Getting a first hand lesson in the creep of fascism here in Alberta. I know that we have voices as voters but it’s beginning to feel like not enough Albertans give a shit to save this place.
Five alarm fire for democracy in Canada.
Not just Alberta.
The whole country.
Not hyperbole. When we take away effective representation, we no longer have a real claim to being a liberal democracy. If Alberta gets away with this, other provinces will follow.
Today, Danielle Smith and the UCP caucus unveiled plans to rig the next election:
A new motion indicates the UCP's plans to manipulate the election maps for the next election in their favour, and without any requirement to consult the public.
This has never been done in Canadian history. /1
“People assume that COVID-19 is done … but what our data is showing is that it’s still having a big impact on our hospitals,” said Mélanie Josée Davidson, director of CIHI’s health system performance division. www.cbc.ca/news/health/...
The big jump in 2022-2023 school year is in large part due to the mass infection of ALL our children with COVID, followed by frequent reinfection. Now, their immune systems are screwed and significant & growing % have Long COVID.

Governments, priorities change, emergency continues FORMER prime minister Justin Trudeau said in June 2019 that his government accepted the findings of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. The inquiry concluded that the violence against Indigenous women, girls and LGBTTQ+ peoples amounted to an ongoing “genocide.” For anyone who has not read the 1,200-page report, entitled Reclaiming Power and Place, the inquiry concluded that much of the violence committed against Indigenous women and girls is “caused by state actions and inactions rooted in colonialism and colonial ideologies.” Essentially, the report said, the centuries- old, systemic genocide of MMIWG and LGBTTQ+ peoples continued to course through Canadian life. To deal with the problem, the commissioners recommended 231 “calls for justice” to be taken up by all levels of institutions in the country (governments, police, health and child and family services, specifically) alongside the creation of economic and social safe spaces. At the same time, Indigenous women, girls and LGBTTQ+ peoples must be respected and restored into a place of honour in Indigenous communities. Even as a prime minister recognized a genocide was occurring, though, very little changed other than the level of funding flowing to some organizations and short-term initiatives. After public reaction to the news that murdered Indigenous women had been disposed of in local landfills in 2023, however, the House of Commons unanimously supported a motion to declare the ongoing violence against Indigenous women, girls and LGBTTQ+ people a “Canada-wide emergency.” Spearheaded by Winnipeg Centre MP Leah Gazan, the motion also called on the federal government to provide increased, immediate and substantial funding for programs and initiatives including a “Red Dress Alert” system to notify the public when an Indigenous person goes missing. Like other initiatives, however, the Red Dress Alert system receiv…

Just got an email from CUPE Alberta. The UCP is in the consultation phase of pulling Alberta out of the CPP. The UCP is "doubling down". They are starting an email campaign, click on link below to send your email.

Edmontonians, the Valley Line is broken.
Regardless of the direction of travel, all passengers have to get off at Muttart and switch trains.
Someone reposted ETS's tweet to Reddit.
Hey @andrewknack.bsky.social why isn't ETS on Bluesky? Why are transit announcements for fascist sympathizers only?
I'm sure "there's one thing that's worse than being uneducated" is going to go over well with his disproportionately uneducated supporter base. #cdnpoli
