Wuzhen China 2003.

I spent a decade travelling around China on many different visits from '93 - '03. Was a joy. Feeling drawn to return after 2 decades...

Around 15 years ago - before the arrival of Russian and Chinese money - Sihanoukville spent a few years as a backpacker magnet of wild beach parties, cheap grog and drugs. I remember spending some time chatting with the owner of this bar - Corruption.

Jim Laurie and Mark Bowyer in Saigon

Jim Laurie and Mark Bowyer in Saigon

This year Vietnam will mark 50 years since the end of the war. Had a great lunch at the Old Compass in Saigon with former NBC journo, Jim Laurie - who stayed through the evacuation.

I started reading Nexus by Yuval Noah Harari a few weeks ago. He seemed to be speculating about an unravelling years off.. based on broken information networks. And then...

There's a copy of Nexus in the library at The Old Compass - as well as great Vietnam reading.

Old Compass Travel - home Small group history walking tours and travel experiences in Saigon and Sydney - history, culture, architecture and food

Great read. Sacred Willow tells a family story and is another good read. Take a walk of history with Old Compass Travel in Saigon if you're heading there - www.oldcompasstravel.com

Nice to see beautiful Bateau Bay on the NSW Central Coast again. I am struck whenever I see historical decisions to preserve a bush corridor from development in populated areas. Who made these enlightened decisions? They were also made around Sydney Harbour. Heroic!

Yeah - I reckon Sarah was wonderful too. Maybe there's momentum to push for a reverse of an idiotic decision?

Sydney Harbour cruise ship

Sydney Harbour cruise ship

You'd hope Sydney gets a very big cut from these giant cruise ships. They have a huge impact on the visual experience of walking around The Rocks.

Sky News documentary ‘Real Cost of Net Zero’ fails to live up to its hubris, with viewers paying the price | Temperature Check Chris Uhlmann says power costs are soaring while renewables are falling short, but do the pair have anything in common?

Refreshing to read some fact-filled, expert-written journalism from @guardian And a reminder that the most toxic media organisation to ever exist - Australian born and bred - cares not for either. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

A pretty good repost to get life started on this platform. May this place be the exception to the toxic betrayal of big tech and Silicon Valley. What are its prospects?
