NYC friends: this poor dog was almost on his freedom ride out of the pound when his foster didn't show up on him. He's now in danger of being put down. Do you have space in your home and heart to adopt him? ❤️
Also, lots of animals at this NYC shelter who need a home.

NEW: Health Secretary Robbert F. Kennedy Jr. has said chronic diseases are his top priority.
But cuts to tobacco control programs - targeting the top driver of preventable death and disease - have decimated key services including a high school group in rural West Virginia:

Thanks @JMacNYC and @jgitchell.bsky.social for having me on Shaping Vaping. I describe my view: State AGs should use MSA-style litigation to regulate e-cigarettes. Despite our disagreements, it was good to search for common ground. @ru-ints.bsky.social @rutgerssph.bsky.social x.com/VaporAmerica...

“We have to attack the universities… professors are the enemy.”
#NIH funds universities.
Jay Bhattacharya believes what Vance says here too. Bhattacharya was chosen by Trump because he would attack universities.
Scientists must oppose Bhattacharya’s confirmation, and there is not much time left.
NEW: One million children will go untreated for severe malnutrition, up to 166,000 people will die from malaria and 200,000 more children will be paralyzed by polio over the next decade, internal memos estimated.
The USAID programs were cut anyway.

I stand with Ukraine. If you were as horrified as I was by today's meeting at the White House, you can email your outrage to: comments@whitehouse.gov.
Please look up the influenza epidemic of 1918-19 to understand that the CDC not selecting strains for next year’s vaccines sets the stage for a public health calamity that will, without doubt and at bare minimum, catastrophically and directly impact people you know. This is a five alarm fire.
Look at these numbers—not as statistics, but as lives lost because of the dismantling of USAID and the wildly successful PEPFAR program. These are real people—families, parents, spouses, children—being condemned to death. Don't let the scale numb your empathy.

The FDA just cancelled a meeting to select flu strains for next season's flu shots.
"It's unclear what the canceled meeting will mean for Americans who want to get a flu vaccine next season."

The abrupt terminations of more than 1,000 employees, including new Epidemic Intelligence Officers, across CDC are deeply disturbing. For more than 70 years, EIS officers have served on America’s front line as its disease detectives, ready at a moment’s notice to respond to emerging outbreaks.

Attacks on NIH grants have taken several forms and it’s hard to keep track. These include funding freeze (TRO resumed flow of $), drastic cuts to indirects (also legal action) and the freeze on issuing NOAs for new and non competing renewals. This last one has not gotten much attention.
Get in Dorks, we are going protesting.
STAND UP FOR SCIENCE. MARCH 7th 12-4pm. DC AND YOUR STATE CAPITALS.
More information to come.
This framing is their framing, and NYT took the bait. The correct and accurate framing is: “Deep cuts to medical research threatens progress on cancer and heart disease research, costs the economy $80B, and threatens 300,000 jobs across red and blue states”
