Jewish troops will be looking for Muslims hidden in the attics of Christians. Let that sink in. https://x.com/ryangrim/statu/ryangrim/status/2039684274564051425 Quote Ryan Grim @ryangrim · 10h Israel is explicitly warning Christian and Druze residents in southern Lebanon not to hide Muslim residents among them as their forces advance.
And there it is.

Screenshot of CNN piece about There Is No Place for Us: “There are people who say I do everything right — I work hard and pay my bills. Why should I care about people like Celeste and others who are homeless? What is so striking about the term, ‘the working homeless,’ is the ways it explodes myths about the American dream: The idea that if you just work hard enough, if you just clock enough hours, you … might not make it rich, but you’ll at least have a modicum of stability. You’ll at least be able to meet your most basic material needs. The term ‘working homeless’ immediately explodes that myth. What it says is the line separating the housed from the unhoused has become devastatingly porous in this country. The line between us and them is much thinner than we would like to believe.”
On the term "working homeless":
Gas only sets Spain's electricity price 15% of the time. When gas costs spike it barely registers on the electricity bill. In countries like Italy and the UK gas sets the price 90% of the time. The difference is enormous.
I spoke to @politico.com about this.

Maybe it’s because I’m a colonial historian but so many of these white nation states seem to behave exactly like they did in the 19th century: ‘your leaders aren’t right for you,’ ‘we’re only killing you/colonizing you/installing puppet leaders for your own good’

“Poly-crisis” is everywhere, often framed as a call to restore nation-state primacy. But are states the only or even the best entities to respond? We argue that cities are where crises are lived and often most directly handled. With @rkeil.bsky.social, Ross Beveridge, Ewan Kerr and Maryam Lashkari.
FYI, Academia.edu has changed its terms of service to give an irrevocable worldwide license for anything uploaded to its site to be used for generative AI. I do not consent to this and have pulled all my papers.

Since declaring war in the Caribbean Sea & Pacific Ocean, US has killed at least 145 people in lethal strikes on boats.
These never-ending & interchangeable wars (war on drugs, war on terror, and war on migrants) by US Southern Command no longer even have to specify what org they are targeting!
American culture from 1776 on was Black, was Indigenous, was Spanish, was Jewish, was Quaker, was a whole lot of different things which then often got together and made splendidly non-European things, and most of our music has an African mother.
The pace at which US wealth concentration is rising is simply staggering
The concentration of AI wealth into the hands of a few tech barons + plutocratic capture ==> unchartered territory
