I agree with you. Sometimes there are large gaps in communication between GenEd teachers, SpEd teachers and guidance counselors. #TeacherEd #SpEd

I recommend observing classrooms with SpEd teachers. I've taught classes with 4 different SpEd teachers, and I've learned a lot from each one of them. They have different methods, so you can adopt the practices which work best for you and your students.

A5 #TeacherEd #SpEd I think that it's really important for teachers and schools to fully address emotional and behavioral issues. Unfortunately, there are not enough counselors in school to address all of the students' needs. Flexibility, empathy, high expectations and teamwork are key.

I love your emphasis on positive self-talk. Students (and adults) can often be their own harshest critics. My children's schools focused on a growth mindset, and I think it's a great view. #TeacherEd #SpEd

A4 #TeacherEd #SpEd I can encourage self-advocacy by talking to students individually and working with them to come up with a plan for success in my class. With open communication, a student can let me know what is working/not working. Positive reinforcement of self-advocacy is key.

A3 #TeacherEd #SpEd Giving students a choice of how they'd like to complete an assignment can play to students' strengths. An assignment to explain the basics of photosynthesis can be a visual model, a bullet list, a presentation, etc.

#TeacherEd #SpEd I'm an 8th grade science teacher, and I definitely agree with you that homework should be all about quality over quantity. I allow students to work on HW in class, so they can ask me questions and be sure that they understand the assignment.

A2 #TeacherEd #SpEd Preferential seating, setting up lab groups so students with LD's work with supportive and inclusive students, HW extensions, allowing students to work on HW during class, so they can ask me questions. Giving positive feedback to students and parents. Keeping parents in the loop.

I have the same difficulty, even with a SpEd teacher in the class with me. Teaching 30 MS students is its own challenge. #TeacherEd #SpEd

I also find it challenging, even with a SpecialEd teacher in a classroom of 30 MS students.

One challenge includes overcoming students' attitudes towards students with learning disabilities. There are also some teachers who are insensitive to students with LD's. When planning lessons, I think about how I may play to the strengths of students with LD's/ #A1 #TeacherEd #SpEd

I also think that it's really important to use different methods to assess student's learning. There are many students who are excellent at memorizing facts, but who have a hard time applying their knowledge.

This is a great idea for students with test anxiety to show what they know. Since your students will probably need to take quizzes and tests in other classes, how else might you help them to reduce their anxiety about testing ?

To build a culturally responsive classroom, a teacher must establish an inclusive classroom where everyone is respected and part of the community. Sharing perspectives and values allows students to learn from one another and expand their understanding of other cultures. #TeacherEd #diverselearners

I definitely agree with your method. Even if you're offering gentle constructive criticism to a student, most people are more receptive to feedback when it starts with a positive. #TeacherEd #grading
