i don't think esp younger game developers who are more attached to particular content creator personalities or subcommunities truly realize the value and importance of bigger tent stuff, especially as it goes away or becomes more precarious. it's bad for culture to live on a siloed internet.

Really love games with funky, experimental interfaces. Kinda reminds me of the early microcomputer and DOS eras where there simply weren't any accepted design rules. Given an entire keyboard, a digital joystick and (if you're really fancy) a mouse, the sky was the limit.

Not every experiment worked

This October it'll be 10 years since I released a game.

I no longer wear time around my neck like a shock collar but it would be nice not to hit that milestone

"One of the penalties of an ecological education is that one lives alone in a world of wounds. Much of the damage inflicted on the land is quite visible to laymen. An ecologist must either harden his shell and make believe that the consequences of science are none of his business, or he must be the doctor who sees the marks of death in a community that believes itself well and does not want to be told otherwise" quote by Aldo Leopold

thank you @rockpapershotgun.bsky.social for bringing the cold, hard facts about Israeli genocide & Microsoft’s complicity to their audience in covering our @nogamesforgenocide.com pledge. we love to see courageous reporting in games, and we are so grateful for the support from our community 💪🏽

I truly hate that the default way to share a creative work is to toss it on a site like this instead of a place where people can go and see your body of work presented with less emphasis on temporal context

Why
‪@why.bsky.team‬
Until December of last year I was using LLMs as fancy autocomplete for coding. It was nice for scaffolding out boilerplate, or giving me a gut check on some things, or banging out some boring routine stuff.

In the past two months Claude has written about 99% of my code. Things are changing. Fast

I have been replaying Iji (2008). when I first played this game back in 2009 it was the coolest thing ever. I remembered it having some very 2000s edge and went in expecting it to show its age. happy to report young me was right and this is the coolest game ever
