It is the privilege of my life to be a storyteller. To be in community with readers and writers. That is the best thing about the LA Times Book Festival. Bringing the entire globe to one city. Bringing folks together. I am so honored to be a finalist for an LA Times Book Prize.

Does anyone else put something on their to do list that they’ve already done (or as they’re doing it ) just check it off and feel good about their productivity?

If you haven’t yet gotten to know Darren Mathews, haven’t gotten lost in the pine trees and blues and barbecue of the Highway 59 trilogy, may I suggest you start today with the novel that kicked it all off. “Bluebird, Bluebird.” Followed by “Heaven, My Home” and then, “Guide Me Home.”

Spent today at Descanso Gardens, communed with trees, watched people’s hopes and dreams lifted up by a breeze, and saw beauty everywhere I looked.
