Haha…my favourite pet peeve is the co-opting of the very specific mathematical term “calculus” to mean calculation. Eg “the politician needs to rethink the calculus…”

I’m in the John Snow Pub in London. Drinking, no mask. That’s so rare for me to not wear a mask. It will be very sad irony if I get COVID

Tangential reference to Dana’s misspelling of “queues” in her earlier comment.😀

Stuck in the Middle with Masking: Playing the Long Game in a Short-Sighted Age - WHN by Sean Mullen, PhD “Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right…” That line plays in my head more often than it should—especially when I’m the only one walking into a conference ballroom, faculty m...

So… I did a thing I'm proud of. Grateful to @thewhn.bsky.social for publishing my piece on masking at work, long-term health, and staying grounded in a chaotic world. If you’ve ever felt stuck between clowns and jokers… you’ll get it. whn.global/stuck-in-the...

I’m still masking. I’m not sure which specific change in which variable(s) will modify my behaviour. It’s an interesting epidemiological puzzle to face. For now though I stay masked with wholly too expensive N95s

A government OF the people, BY the people, FOR the people has a basic constitutional responsibility to the welfare of its people. Depleting US DHHS is antithetical to health and welfare.

THIS IS HUGE! Researchers at Scripps Research Institute have developed a groundbreaking UNIVERSAL coronavirus vaccine that triggers STONG immune responses AND shows promise in neutralizing MULTIPLE coronaviruses, including those responsible for causing COVID-19, MERS, AND even the “common cold.” 🧪🧵⬇️

Glad it’s not too bad. My daughter is doing a study abroad year at QUT. It’s funny, when she chose Brisbane we talked about cyclones in Queensland. And I was like- nah, you’ll be fine. You only get those in far North Queensland. She has been riding out the storm safely in Southbank with others.

While my travels remind me that diseases should never be named after real places, I would be remiss if I did not also acknowledge the privilege of travel. And that those diseases have brought undue hardship to so many. #Privilege #GlobalHealth #DiseaseNaming

I’ve crossed the Ross River, stood at the 4 Corners, seen horse stables at Hendra, touched the replica broad street pump in London, been to Oropouche in Trinidad and driven through Tulare County. #Emerging #Zoonoses #HumanAnimal #OneHealth

Oh Nicola, I’m so sorry that you have to say goodbye to Orville. The void in your heart can only be filled with sweet memories, and I know he supplied you with many of those. At the end of the day, he was loved and he gave love. There can be no testimony to describe a member of the family. ❤️❤️❤️

Federal One Health Coordination Learn about the new framework (NOHF-Zoonoses), and CDC's federal coordination to advance One Health.

Space for some optimism with regards #OneHealth
Let’s hope that there is true co-equal sharing of power between all of these US agencies in a manner reflective of true OneHealth.

Germany confirms first case of foot-and-mouth disease in nearly 40 years German authorities confirmed the country's first outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in nearly 40 years on Friday in a herd of water buffalo on the outskirts of Berlin.

This is surprising and concerning:

Alas!
If I ever come across a coral snake, my final thoughts will be pedantically preoccupied with the poem about Red/Yellow…some fellow-red/black…Jack? Stand back? Don’t take flack?
…coral snake wins!

And who starts a modern sentence with “alas”?

I spent 5 weeks in Queensland in 2022. FNQ is beautiful! Nothing like a Queensland River! Nor a Queensland Beach.
