Anyway I think neighbourhood Italian that isn't pizza is a completely pointless restaurant if you can cook at all because it's really easy to cook your own perfectly okay pasta. >
The neighbourhood restaurant reminded me of going to the neighbourhood Italian with my parents as a treat as a child, back when everyone was poorer and restaurants were worse and the kind of restaurant I went to in the city didn't really exist because everything was either neighbourhood or Fancy. >
The city restaurant was compromised by the ruthless table turning (which seemed disproportionately applied to my table and not the adjacent tables), but the food was just so much better. >
I ended up with some similar dishes and the price to quality ratio of the more expensive restaurant was so much better. Excluding drinks the "neighbourhood" was only marginally cheaper but noticeably worse. >
Because of the alignment of different social groups I went to both a very fast service reasonably fancy city Italian adjacent restaurant and a chill service neighbourhood Italian restaurant in the same week. I spent twice as much pp in the city but that was very much driven by drinks. >
