My last session today at #ESCMIDGlobal2026 will be a Year in clinical microbiology. This is always rapid fire, so I won’t be taking notes. But, to be honest, I’m just here to see if any @lancetmicrobe.bsky.social papers get mentioned.

It’s back… and it’s bigger! In one hour the ESCMID Global quiz show returns to #ESCMIDGlobal2026!
Teams of four will battle it out in a fast-moving #InfectiousDisease quiz competition, going head-to-head for prizes - with audience rewards also up for grabs. Join us soon!
Interesting... we just had last month an ERC representative come for an 'information talk' on the changes to ERC but this was definitely not addressed. It was a rather off-tone, up-beat presentation in the lines of:
"guys there is money, please apply!"
I'm utterly confused now, what's going on? 🤔
"Pancreatic cancer mRNA vaccine shows lasting results in an early trial: Scientists caution that more research is needed, but nearly all of the patients who responded to the personalized vaccine are still alive six years later."
I wrote a whole book about AI but I agree with this completely — and also the implication that there are countless other areas of research more important than AI.
To any that knew Ellen in the #DevBio community- you know she was so thoughtful and always willing to help. She cared about all of us and dedicated herself to improving the future of science and our community. She will be sorely missed. Sending my condolences to all that loved her.💔
Belief in & support for vaccines is normal.
“But that reality is not immune to the stories we tell about it… [Bad polls] change what clinicians say in the exam room, the decisions policymakers & leaders make, and ultimately become a self-fulfilling prophecy.”
Methods matter for talking points
Ah yes, the good and the bad behavior deserves mention, true. 😁
Oh 😧!
To accompany my textbook (Computational Foundations of Cognitive Neuroscience) and the class I taught this semester, I'm open-sourcing my lectures slides:

I'll continue to update these as I improve them.
“We scientists are used to sticking to our knitting. But I began realizing that science needed defending,” says @samwang.bsky.social.
@nature.com talked to researchers running for office who say the "science is above politics" era is a failed business model.
Sadly, applications to the Advanced Python summer school have dropped significantly over the past 2 years.
Plus, there'll be no external funding for the 1st time in *17 years*.
Likely all because of GenAI - but programming skills still matter🔥
Deadline May 3, please help by sharing:

Planetary biology has made its stage entrances across cell and molecular biology, biochemistry and biophysics. A nascent group of researchers sees planetary health as an urgent reason to bridge the molecular and planetary scales. @vivienm.bsky.social investigates.

The Guggenheim Foundation has always been committed to awarding Fellowships at the highest level. Since its founding in 1925, the Foundation has awarded nearly $450 million in fellowships to more than 19,000 Fellows. This year, applications in the Creative Arts and Humanities were up by 50% and applications in the Sciences were up by 86%. At a time when intellectual and creative life is under attack, the Foundation continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting extraordinary individuals breaking new ground in the Creative Arts, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities, and a range of interdisciplinary fields.
External funding is rapidly reaching crazy levels of competition. Good luck, folks.

A good friend of mine works at NASA, and has spent the last TEN years of his life working on the Orion CPAS (Capsule Parachute Assembly System), testing it in the deserts of Arizona.
Ten years of design & testing. For this moment.
Science is so good, y'all.

This one is worth it.
First PoC and first woman to go around another world. Don't stop talking about this point. It's important.

Weird to me that this is the thing everyone cites, because there's so much that's so much worse. In 1974 the first laws against marital rape were passed, but all 50 states did not classify it as a crime/remove the exemption until 1993.
This project was recently discussed in the @natmethods.nature.com piece on Planetary Biology @scilifelab.se and more written by @vivienm.bsky.social you can read about it here: doi.org/10.1038/s41592-026-03063-4

This isn’t a decision we made lightly, but it might be overdue. 🧵 (1/5)
