I met Fr. Isaac once — at the Medieval Congress in Kalamazoo back in 2019. He came across as very smart and very nice. My one direct interaction with him was that he sold me a couple loaves of Genesee bread.

"Religion often pulses in great art long after it ceases to be spoken or openly practiced by its artists. He also shows that some artists engage with an inherited faith in ways that are too complex to leave to the categories of belief and unbelief." www.spiritualityandpractice.com/book-reviews...

Metaphors used by medieval monks to describe concentration:
A cat holding a mouse, a hen sitting on her eggs, a fish swimming in the water never caught.
Dear Sweden, Switzerland, New Zealand, Uraguay, Mauritius:
I would like to emigrate, together with my family. I think I have a lot to offer, but I'm also sort of desperate.
What are my chances?
Sincerely,

The older I get, the more I realize: loving others means acknowledging I don’t understand them.
When I was a young married seminary student 36 years ago I spent an entire Chicago winter wearing moccasins with holes in the soles, stuffed with cardboard that I'd change nightly.
But I continued to buy non-required books.
I'd do that again.
My God is love absolutely, #MeisterEckhart from "Meister Eckhart's Book of the Heart."
Remember this everyone.❤️🙏

@jonmsweeney.bsky.social You'll appreciate that we simultaneously bought this print of Francis and Clare. It's paired with the Cuthbert print on our wall.

The memorable passage in the CONFESSIONS, VI.3, in which Augustine comes across Bishop Ambrose reading silently:
"But when he was reading, his eye glided over the pages, and his heart searched out the sense, but his voice and tongue were at rest."

I don’t say this often, but with Pope Leo and the unified Vatican/Church stance against the US war against Iran, I couldn’t be prouder to be a Roman Catholic today.
Ancient culture knew not silent reading. Reading was done aloud. That is why the verb often translated "meditate" in Psalm 1:2 really means mumble or "say quietly."
"Happy are those who...delight in...the Lord, and on his law meditate [mumble; say quietly] day and night."
Why do people my age and older seem to worry endlessly about the effects of AI on the young, while, at the same time, whenever I ask someone my age or older a question, they seem to come back telling me what it is that AI answered?
