You have to appreciate the sheer brutality of a 51-44 semi between #1 seeds.

given the modern conservative fascination with Sparta it's at least a little funny that they've engineered a situation in which Persia is able to level a dramatically uneven battlefield by forcing the conflict into a narrow pathway

the Hitch-Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy quote I think of most often these days is, “What do you mean, why’s it got to be built? It’s a bypass. You’ve got to build bypasses.”

Any connection to certain modern technologies is purely coincidental, and mostly harmless.

During my tenure in Alameda, Dontrelle and I lived a couple blocks apart for a while. Rooted for him his whole career.

Same. On all counts.

I think this is correct. I don't think there's such a thing as a transcendent Red Delicious apple, where a great version of almost any other fruit has a good chance of being amazing.

There's no point in arguing against the point when I have a (limited) personal relationship with the band. But if you were listening to KROQ or WHTG back then, there were other songs.

As a Californian who has lived on both the nice/nice and mean/mean divide, this is...a call. I have been mean/mean most of my life, though, so perhaps I am just being mean about it.

Disco Elysium

RHETORIC (Heroic: Failure] - Alright, here we go. We're devoting all your available brain cells to coming up with a question about communism. Scratch that, to coming up with *the* question about communism, the alpha and omega of communism
questions, and that question is:
1. - (Whisper.) "Are women bourgeois?" 2. - Oh god, that's bad. Surely I can think of
something better.

Starting to think it is required to play Disco Elysium to understand Bluesky

When I was in grad school, I lived on Venice Blvd., literally across the street from Culver City. It was nice! And it's both safer and more interesting now.

At least Bluesky has The Juice for live sports now

Much more entertaining than this game, anyway

I haven't played Planescape (I am a big Disco Elysiam guy), but I am not sure my main thought after reading is that I would play the hell out of a game influenced by/loosely based on The Crying of Lot 49.

Agreed! Although I like the first four more than 5. S5 has grown on me more over time; it seems less outlandish now to me than it seemed then.

Hard same. I was actually studying the port for my academic life at the same time the series ran, so it really spoke to me.

The Wire is my favorite show, but S2 is my favorite and I get heat about that almost every time it comes up.
