good job
Makes me think of a displacer beast
Oop, didn't manage this week. Writing a report card for a 3-year project was more emotionally taxing than we were expecting & need a bit more time.
However, we'll also be doing a livestream celebration/Kickstarter phase wrapup for Lancer Tactics! April 15, 3-5 PST :: www.youtube.com/live/30huanm...
Might touch up some details, but think this one is just about done
Backed this in a heartbeat.
And now kick back and dream of a world where we trade moons and sentences on on IRC channels like fansubs of Slayers avis.
My friend who initially got me into Lancer remarked yesterday that they were surprised I wasn't sick of it yet, after it being near my fulltime+ job since 2023. Idk man I just like robot guys.
We've gotta hit the bottom of this well eventually but for now I'm still drinking deep and descending.
We've gotten very lucky in what feels like a once-per-career sort of way. It's been a comically implausible amount of work to get here but also required a fortuitous syzygy of opportunities lining up. The whole project is buoyed by the interest & contributions of many people. Here's just a few:
It's gone from a demo I cobbled together from asset packs while traveling & visiting friends in Europe to a burgeoning game studio where we get to pay artists & I get to work with my friends doing the thing I was made to do every day.
Today is trans day of visibility 🏳️⚧️ but more immediately for me it's also the 3-year anniversary of Lancer Tactics' Kickstarter campaign. Writing up a larger retrospective for the next backer post, but it's cool to see how far we've come since then.
An informative read about military "kill chains"; Kanban boards for airstrike targets, and decision momentum in organizations.
found this on my desktop while changing laptops and realized I never posted it. am I too late to chase the trend
(aoe2 is the grungler; included for how big an impression the map editor made on me)
good webbed sites:
1. wikipedia
2. craigslist
end of list
haha when I wrote that I was like "is this too self-indulgent? ah well I can take it out later if it proves to be too cringe" but never for a moment have I regretted it
Hey you!
I'm playing the newest build of Lancer Tactics on my stream tonight!
Did I mention I helped with this game!
Thank you to @wick.works for the amazing opportunity to work with one of my favorite games of all time!

Oh, that makes sense. Thanks for sharing :)
Wow! How? Is it a projected texture that you've calculated the right angles for?
Wow! This is gorgeous.
Haha I saw you start explaining having a script preload its own scene and was like NONONO IT SEEMS LIKE IT WORKS BUT IT'S A TRAP right before you explained exactly why doing so is a cursed hard-to-diagnose footgun. 😂
LT's got a lot of positive attention last month! Highlights:
- Giant Bomb featured us in a "quick look".
- First game trailer for LT!
- Steam Wishlist page launched; 33k+ wishlists already 😱
- Reached the #1 slot of paid games on itch
- We launched a dedicated Discord server: discord.gg/2xEau8hwfX

It makes me so happy how many times I've gotten to update names in the backer credits because somebody transitioned since the kickstarter

imo it's wild that this basic layout for hasn't changed since godot 2.0; mode buttons up top, scene tabs right below it, and a vertical list of scripts "within" all that. I really think it could use a fundamental experienced UX rethink
here's what I mean; the script "mode" at the top is actually the top-level organization while editing scripts, so it's strange that there's such a strong organizational visual element of the scene tab between that and what you're working with.
The hierarchy of the tabs for scenes and scripts is confusing. The scene tab is connected to the script editor, which can be totally unrelated to said scene. Having a *different* vertical list of tabs that's actually controlling the script editor but is visually within the top tab isn't good.
Idk I've never seen the button show up; I think it only becomes available somewhere if it's been at least 30 days since the last update. Presumably it's shown to users in a much more positive light eg "let this creator know you would love to hear from them! :)"
Presumably it's to help prompt creators to remember to write updates but in a non-automated-nag way, which I admire in principle.
Large red banner at the top of Kickstarter that says "a backer requested an update for Lancer tactics". It also sends an email.
I understand why it exists, but getting this notification from Kickstarter always makes me *so* mad. I'm literally already writing the update and you're out there obnoxiously tapping on the glass of my aquarium.
