It was very cringey hearing the attorney fumbling to answer this. But later on, when the a different attorney from plaintiffs discussed irreparable harms, they specially mentioned institutions that house primates and the increased costs associated with their care etc. so overall it came through.

The economic and societal burden of AD should be enough of a reason for the federal government to be vested in funding the search for a cure.

We either pay for the cost of identifying a cure now, or we face the cost of caring for our aging population later.

Which one will it be?

My lab works on Alzheimer disease (AD), the sixth leading cause of death in the U.S. While this administration seeks to slash biomedical research to the tune of 4 billion dollars a year, the healthcare costs associated with AD treatment alone is projected to exceed $1 trillion by 2050.

Protect research funding Federal funding for biomedical research is under threat.

For decades, NIH funding has fueled breakthroughs in cancer, heart disease and more. But a new policy puts progress at risk. We need Congress to oppose this abrupt change. Join me in emailing lawmakers today! #SaveNIHresearch bit.ly/4hxmfsK

Cutting overheard funds without changing the complex landscape of regulations biomedical labs have to abide by in order to perform research is a clear indication that this is not about reform. Itโ€™s punitive. By the way, regulations are important to ensure ethical and safe practices.

Many in biotech/private sector are boasting about their ways of funding and doing science

But they are staffed with PhDs and postdocs we train in our NIH and NSF funded labs in universities

With university labs lacking funds to train, the private sector will be profoundly harmed

Yes! I havenโ€™t seen people make this point enough. Biotech should be lobbying hard to protect academic science right now. They also have a better chance to leverage the argument of the economic impact this will have to republicans in congress.
