Brilliant.
The real problem with MPs is that our legisature is incredibly weak compared to the executive so their ability to affect policy is v limited. But that's not a punchy slogan...
Perhaps an unpopular take, but I hate it when MPs are described as out of touch. They meet a greater variety of different people than 99% of the population, often in order to hear their complaints. They think far harder about issues than ordinary voters do.
This is a reminder to me not to prioritise form over content. The content was good.
Sorry. I used to write, and latterly edit, for a living, and I know this one would have had the red pen straight out… need to find a better hobby now I’m differently employed!
Not the main point here, I grant you—and it’s a good article—but “typically they are often” is an unforgivably bad piece of writing!
This is exactly it. My youngest stepchild would finish with “In the name of Christ. Amen biscuits.”
🤦♂️
The Tone. Yes. I know. Miss it, though!
Absolutely. That’s what it’s for.
I echo your hope, but please note the Commons Women and Qualities Committee is not a “government” account, but a parliamentary one. Important distinction.
I know of at least one former Clerk of the House who would disagree with that rating.
“warring humankind”?
absolute banger, this. thank you
Stir up, O Lord,
the wills of your faithful people;
that they, plenteously bringing forth the fruit of good works, may by you be plenteously rewarded;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen

It would be funny to say “glad I got out when I did!” if I weren’t actually genuinely and increasingly concerned for the safety of my former colleagues

It just seems to be a fixed feature of media culture that newsdesks + subs can do "protests anticipated" & "protests continue/swell" but will never put "protests shrink" even when they do
So there is a chasm between the framing/headlines & the live reporting of smaller protests than before

Try @paulagooder.bsky.social.
(on a personal note it's quite striking how quickly I've gone from "generally a bit of a pinko on defence issues" to "and could I just do a monthly direct debit to BAE Systems, would that help")
One lad who'll risk their life going across the English Channel in a dinghy in the hope of some shit minimum wage job instead of living at the absolute bottom rung of the capitalist exploitation ladder is worth a 1000 commentators who keep trying to tell you to give in to fascism just a little bit
Ha! Not carefully enough…
An election poster displaying the slogan “Make Crime Illegal”.
Canadian things you can watch next Sunday that are just as good as the Super Bowl, if not better:
1) Meetings of Parliament's Standing Joint Committee for the Scrutiny of Regulations
2) #1 but watch it with the audio feed of the other official language
YOU'RE WELCOME.
