Moscow to suspend Kazakh oil flows through key pipeline supplying Berlin

6 days after Trump made 13 celebratory posts in a hour claiming that Iran surrendered to all his demands and the war is over, he’s back threatening to blow up power plants and bridges.
Every day, I write the same story: Russian strikes claiming lives. One person here, five there, a child, a grandparent... These tragedies have become so routine that the world is growing numb.
Iran’s Parliament Speaker MB Ghalibaf accuses Trump of lying, saying he made “seven claims in one hour, all false.” He adds Iran—not the U.S.—will control the Strait of Hormuz, with ships requiring “Iranian authorization” to pass.
Please don’t settle it with swords. No duelling at dawn please.
Absolutely stunning.
Oh dear @davidallengreen.bsky.social. We seem to be living in every kind of interesting times don’t we.

While men in suits debate lifting sanctions and re-admitting athletes, Russia goes on exactly as before bombing Ukrainian families to death every night.
A good day to remind people that, around 2000 or so, Edward Said began routinely telling journalists and editors in his interviews that the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territory was now the longest in modern world history, after having surpassed the Japanese occupation of Korea.
Woohoo! Go South Korea.

Interesting thread.
If AI removes the grunt work for junior lawyers (eg, due diligence for corporate lawyers and discovery for litigators) then it will affect social mobility, as well as other things.
It is how you learn to be a lawyer in those areas.
Senior Tory MP claims knife crime went up by 72% in London.
In fact offences fell by 11% in the year to September 2025.

Israel has now destroyed the last main bridge connecting southern Lebanon to the rest of the country.
From FT. Dateline c 11:00 GMT Thurs 16 April.
Things I have seen in the rubble of Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon in the past week, part four.
At least 2,167 people have been killed in Lebanon since March 2 and 7,061 wounded. The dead include at least 172 children and 260 women.

This is really interesting on why transitioning to renewables can bring extra costs. There are hidden costs in cleaning up UK (& global) energy. *Not* an ideological article, a good deep dive.

No, I think it’s clear - Trump is driving Iran towards serious alliance with Russia & China. Which they’d avoided before. And *then* we’ll have a big problem next time Israel decides to have their little lawn-mowing flyover.
I’m not an economist, & I have no knowledge of real policy frameworks, but it seems to me from the good things I’ve read recently that raising tax, even corp. tax, has complicated consequences that can bugger things up. So - you may be right, who knows.
What does this mean? From BBC Live feed 14:00 GMT.
had a great conversation last night with @j-amesmarriott.bsky.social on what our favourite philosopher of information - Walter Ong - can tell us about a historical moment when the most powerful leader in the English-speaking world is rowing with the Pope
