🎬 Hegseth copied Tarantino who copied “Chiba the Bodyguard”

Tarantino 'borrowed' the source material of the "Pulp Fiction" monologue that Hegseth delivered at a Pentagon prayer service

Tarantino's words essentially came from “The Bodyguard”, a 1973 Sonny Chiba karate flick 🥋

The intensity…

Film created by Massive Attack (working with US photo artist thefinaleye)…comes in the aftermath of the largest public protests in American history - focused on opposition to ICE raids, the militarisation of domestic forces, and state authoritarianism.

The United States is destroying itself | Rebecca Solnit The daily news can’t adequately convey the administration’s sabotaging of our government, economy, alliances and environment

The old aphorism about how long it takes an aircraft carrier to turn around might be why the nation seems relatively stable...the full impact is yet to come...it will start taking on water or listing badly or hit an iceberg, or perhaps the iceberg has been there all along...Donald Trump.

“Anthropic had the ability to hack into basically anything, in a situation in which no one would have known such a thing was even possible, and wouldn’t be looking. They made the decision to give up that power and start Project Glasswing. They want to take The Ring to Mordor. “

The Invite (2026) Joe and Angela’s marriage is on thin ice. When they invite their enigmatic upstairs neighbors for a dinner party, the night spirals into unexpected places.

"The Invite" looks good. Maybe an updated Carnage, though that was great.

Wall text and an image introducing the photographs of Ocean Vuong

Went to the Center for #Photography in Woodstock last weekend to see Ocean Vuong's exhibition as well as Nona Faustine's. Both were wonderful in their own way.

Oh how I love the sweet sounds of spring, the gentle hum of the environment being destroyed by gas-powered lawn tools.

This is an actual post. This is not funny. This is beyond desperate. This is a deeply unwell man who doesn’t belong anywhere near the levers of power. Every member of his cabinet and Congress is complicit in not demanding his removal now.

Going to two of these. Double feature with:

Silent Friend (Q&A with Ildikó Enyedi and Tony Leung!),

and

Chungking Express (how many times does one need to see this, I don't know, but I lost count).

Watch OLIVIERO TOSCANI IN OLIVIERO TOSCANI (2014) A documentary film by Francesco G. Raganato | Italy | 2014 | 25 minutes - Benetton’s shock images: Toscani defends advertising as a political gesture.

Wow, what an interesting/outspoken #photographer! If you didn’t know (like me), Oliviero Toscani is known mostly for the Benetton campaigns, but his career is basically one of bravado and great talent.

Oh the first Beef was a real surprise. I think it was great, and relieved that season 2 would not merely drag out the first season.

It’s a good idea—I ‘think’ started with True Detective, and now White Lotus, etc.—to repay the concept instead of the story line.

“It's tempting to use the analogy of rats fleeing a sinking ship to describe the growing number of Republican elected officials starting to speak out against Donald Trump. But that's really not fair to rats, who tend not to be complicit in driving ships to the bottom of the sea.”

Amused by the Republicans who are jumping ship now. So…the concentration camps (etc!) weren’t enough, but high gas prices really do it?
