What a MAN!
Darrell K Sweet never stuck to traditional depictions of Middle-earth, and brought his own lavish fantasy style that made me fall in love with his work! Look at the wild armor on the man at the Doors of Durin (again, is it Aragorn? Boromir? Hard to say.) and Aragorn's extravagent armor on the right!
Thank you! Fantastic magazine!
Reforging of the Sword by Darrell K Sweet - my favorite fantasy artist.
From his 1982 Tolkien Calendar. Depicts a woodland Rivendell forge. The elven smiths are not as ethereal as often depicted. Is that dapper fellow next to Gandalf supposed to be Aragorn or Elrond?

I love everything you do, but you did a couple of Masters of the Universe characters in a kind of chibi style years ago that I just fell in love with, it really matched your style well!! The character designs in that series are so wacky and fun. Buff spiders, robots, skunks, and moss, what’s better
an inner sanctum, where a wolf-like figure stands in front of a gazelle sorceress and her elephant guardsman, as a boiling pot overflows.
Art by @denisloubet.bsky.social, a commission he dubbed "Furzetta"due to its use of anthropomorphized characters in a Frazetta-esque piece. I am a sucker for this kind of stuff!
Denis left some kind messages on some posts recently, so wanted to celebrate his place in fantasy illustration as well!
If you have any archives of them they would be awesome to see! ICE had some of the best Middle-earth art done for them. Angus is one of the finest in historical AND fantasy illustration. His Lord of the Rings sketches are perhaps my favorite art of that world.
Happy birthday Izzy!!
there’s actually an illustration for this by Jeff Reitz
that is the proper reaction to this scenario
A scarlet clad woman commands an army of dragons in a foggy environment under a purple sky
Earl Norem - Dragon Queen’s Revenge
Cover to one of the Wizards & Warriors choose-your-own-adventure books. I think these are some of Norem’s best works of Sword & Sorcery art!
The Face of Chaos - Walter Velez (preliminary & final version)
Cover art for a book in the Thieves World anthology series.
I included the preliminary because I actually prefer the colors and the pleasant simplicity of the shapes!

Chamber of Mazarbul - Angus McBride
The fellowship battles foes in Moria!
Not sure the source, my assumption is that it was painted for Iron Crown Enterprise’s Middle-earth Role Playing Game.
