The leaked memos confirm what we all knew: Big Oil effectively has the conservative Justices on retainer. This casts a disturbing pall over future cases affecting oil industry interests, including, most notably, Suncor.
Becoming increasingly radicalized against qualified immunity every time one of these decisions comes down
anyway, if this court is going to act as little more than a partisan legislature than it ought to be treated like one by the actual legislature
Bingo
👇🎯 Yes but it needs to go further:
- No shadow docket
- No clerks
- No building
- Riding the circuit
We can debate necessary structural reforms like more seats & such. But first, immediately, the next Congress needs to strip these Wizards In Robes of every perk & power not explicitly in Art. III.
Somebody call that court a plumber. We’ve got a leak!
WOW: Jodi Kantor & Adam Liptak have the memos that describe the origins of SCOTUS shadow docket - the 2016 order halting Obama’s Clean Power Plan @jodikantor.bsky.social @adamliptak.bsky.social @nytimes.com

This is both
(1) some of the most important SCOTUS reporting ever, and
(2) far too generous to the Republican justices in framing of many pieces and omissions of Trump-era developments
This is crazy. Just open-air larceny.
this is a microcosm of the world as conservatives want it, where “merit” means an unrestricted good ol’ boys club
Arguing the state has a legally cognizable interest in promoting the impregnation of children.
Want to know how Congress can fix the Supreme Court? Had a great conversation with @alexaronson.bsky.social on the tools we can - and must - use to ensure that ethics, democracy and rule of law survive the Roberts era. youtu.be/3lb4HZQMN-4?...
An HBO documentary exposing “dark money” in American politics just earned an Emmy nomination.
It cites The Lever’s reporting — and credits us in the film.
This is the system we’ve been investigating for years.
“We are at a dangerous precipice, and it is now a matter of national security for Congress to fulfill its responsibilities under the 25th Amendment to protect the American people from an increasingly volatile and unstable situation."
Stay on offense @raskin.house.gov ↘️
OMB Director Russell Vought it set to testify before the House and Senate Budget Committees this week. For far too long, Vought has operated in the shadows as the chief architect of Trump's destruction of the federal government.
It's time to shine a light on Vampire Vought.🧵
To scholars of democratic backsliding, it is difficult to overstate how big a deal today's election in Hungary, a country of less than 10 million people, is likely to be as a narrative milestone for our age, regardless of which way it goes.

"You're going to come at us, we're going to punch you back."
I spoke with Rep. @seancasten.bsky.social about his SCOTUS reform plans and the host of powerful tools Congress has in its belt to actually rein in the rogue Roberts Court.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor lets Brett Kavanaugh have it:
“I had a colleague in that case who wrote, you know, these are only temporary stops. This is from a man whose parents were professionals. And probably doesn’t really know any person who works by the hour."

Why would anyone come here voluntarily?
I'm not sure how you can be against removing this man from office right now. What will it take? A nuke being dropped? It's too late then. The purpose of impeachment and the 25th Amendment is to prevent that type of thing from happening, not just to react to it.
They have to remove him from office and send him to The Hague, literally as fast as they can
HORRIBLE. ICE is averaging more than one death a week this year. It's like clockwork. The last death reported was exactly seven days ago.
If America is to actually repudiate fascism, not kinda sorta put it on partial pause (if only in some states), we require a reckoning across every aspect of society.
