Reminder that you can order pretty much any book you'd ever want via your local bookstore's online website — might be a buck or two more than Amazon, but well worth it to support local small business owners!

The current NBA media is so full of people sucking up to players and actively running PR for teams they cover that I would immediately push back on this. Although, maybe it then turns into doing what Chad is saying by denigrating those stars not on the team said media member is covering.

Gave up my subscription at the end of 2025 and have no regrets. They’re doing good work still but I can’t support tech-bro glazing with my own money anymore.

“It’s a couple of things that work beautifully in concert. First: no music. Audiences are so sophisticated, but what they’re not accustomed to is not being told how to feel,” Wyle says. “You take all that out and it forces a level of engagement where you’re now looking for clues within the frame of the screen, which forces you to look up from your phone. And I think that is extremely engaging, especially to young viewers who aren’t accustomed to being asked to participate in a nonpassive way in the viewing experience.

“Second point, shooting it with almost exclusively 50-millimeter or 65-millimeter lenses, which is the most comparable to the human eye—and only shooting from the point of view of a human being that’s present in this space. There are no cameras on gurney wheels going in the hallway. There’s no cameras on the ceiling looking down from a God point of view. You are limited to the perspective of a participant. You can look away, but you can’t leave, and it becomes an endurance test for you to stay on your feet as long as we’re on our feet. Which [brings me to my] third point: real time. Real time has an aggregate sense of tension that you don’t get in any other form of storytelling. What happened before is happening now, and these two things are going to add up to the next thing. And if we throw more ingredients into this cooker and keep ratcheting it up, it’s going to pop.”

Wyle makes eye contact for his next point, delivering it with a Robby-esque matter-of-factness. “Fourth point: The election went the other way,” he says with a shrug. “We could have been a really good show with a lot of nice things to say in a perfectly normal Kamala Harris universe. And instead we became almost a beacon of hope and humanity in an alternative universe. But in the midst of that, fifth point—this is essentially competence porn. You’re watching really smart, dedicated people do what only they know how to do at a level that you don’t know how to do it, and you’re so fucking glad that they’re there doing it, and compartmentalizing their own stuff to put your broken pieces back together. You’re so reassured by knowing that there are people out there that laugh and joke and have the ability to lock in like that.”

Network of online influencers back Nate Morris for Senate. Are they getting paid? They post on X with the same message, at the same time. They have more than a million followers. They’re backing Nate Morris for US Senate.

New: "On the same day, at the same time, 3 of America's biggest conservative influencers on X all had the same thing to say about KY U.S. Senate candidate Nate Morris."

I went long on that campaign, many others across the US & one of MAGA’s biggest young stars.

Counterpoint: I use em dashes with abandon and will not let "AI" steal them from me. I was overusing them first and will continue to do so long after "AI" is a crater in our financial system, or our merciless overlords, or both

That is simply untrue.

You can (and SHOULD) never devote blind loyalty to anything and just accept when things are clearly not great.

It's just like with people. If you know someone's not doing well, talk to them about it. You do that out of love.

Otherwise, you're not a good friend.

Or fan.

You Can Never Let Them Think They Have A Chance | Defector I don’t remember the first time someone hit on me as a reporter. I believe this is because my brain has come to treat these events as unremarkable. For any woman in journalism, they pile up over the y...

I wrote about Dianna Russini, the constant pressure female reporters face to prove they aren't sleeping with sources (plus the pressure we do get from sources to get involved with them), and why all of this is so uncomfortable to talk about.

It’s my wife’s favorite Zelda (she’s a fiend for all of them). Finally played it myself for the first time over the course of a few weekends the year before our son was born. One of my favorite months, badass game.

Fresh off rewatches of 1 and 2 and it’s just absolutely remarkable how incredibly made these movies were and remain.

We’ve lost so much vision in pursuit of “content.”

It’d be total nostalgia porn but I gotta be honest, I’m not sure I’d be more excited about anything in movies than if Sam Raimi got another go at a SPIDER-MAN movie in his universe with 100% creative control.

Fuck the MCU stuff. Just gimme all Tobey, Dunst and whatever his mind can conjure.

That Time DMX Carried Steven Seagal's Comeback Attempt ("Exit Wounds") YouTube video by Not Another 2001 Movie Podcast

EXIT WOUNDS is simultaneously the kind of movie I never really wanna watch outside of a purpose like making a podcast and also the kind of movie I wish was still in theaters once a week.

Really fun episode, I think!

I personally think not safe to remain in any personal relationship with anyone who is using LLMs to analyze your relationship, make conclusions about your motives, or determine how to treat you. I think this is beyond red flag—it should be an immediate dealbreaker.
