In the meantime, for the last few years, Capcom has been killing it by providing strong and focused experiences (Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, some fighting games, and recently Pragmata)

They're not completely wrong though, the enormous live service games are still the ones to bring the biggest amounts of money 😅
BUT, those games are the same ones than 10 years ago, and it's an insane shot in the dark to try competing with them.

My GOTY 2024
Slow but tenseful gameplay, a childlike yet dark ambiance, and a story waaay more compelling than what we expected : we played it with gf and we thought about the game for WEEKS after
Félicitations ! 🎉
Loving it! Loving it all! The spreadsheets, the feedback, the sticky little problems the team are waiting for you to write the way out of. I remind myself: "what are you here on this earth to do?" I mutter. "This." And get right back into it. I remember my death. It's coming! "So what are you going to do about it?" Comes the inner whisper. I mutter "This!" and get right back into it. If I worry about what other people think, I try to raise my gaze all the way out past the heat death of the universe. This! Mmm, I love it.
Ultimately, you have to put your ego aside and try to enjoy the ride. This advice from Charlene Putney (in The Game Narrative Kaleidoscope by @inkle.co) feels worthy of printing out and sticking on the wall.

“The reason why the Artemis mission has everyone so fascinated is because it is a showcase for the efforts of people who are very, very good at their jobs, at a time when the news cycle is dominated by people who are not merely terrible at their jobs, but awful human beings as well.”

But the push towards photorealistic, or at least realism-inspired, visuals has led the industry into a corner, where you need to put two screenshots next to each other to understand where the improvements are this time. You need to be told where to look.
That's really quite sad in my opinion.
