I can't believe I'm hitting 27 in less than a week! I know mid-to-late twenties isn't actually old, but I'm also going a bit crazy as I get closer and closer to the big three-oh. Thirty feels like a time when you're meant to have your shit together, an my life still feels like such a mess!

I loved the character interaction and world-building in that scene, and it was heartbreaking to cut it, but ultimately I have to act with a deep respect for my reader's time (and my commissioner's wallet!). The scene just didn't add *enough* to justify its presence in a short one-off fic.

"Kill your darlings" doesn't always mean killing off a beloved character (although sometimes you've gotta do that too). Today it meant cutting an entire 1400-word section that I genuinely loved from the piece I'm working on at the moment.
