Protest, Power, and the Violence Debate "We are told we are experiencing peace, so long as everyone is cooperating."

@prisonculture.bsky.social and I have been encouraging people to read chapter six of our book, Let This Radicalize You, which deals with the question of "violence" in social movements. We have decided to share the chapter publicly, to offer some context and grounding for the current conversation.

Right wing politicians fully know that people will migrate, know that trans people will exist, know that sex work will happen, know that many people use drugs, know that the planet is burning..

b/c PP doesn’t want the ballot to protect someone who is 24+ pregnant. PP is sacrificing these women for a ballot that doesn’t change what currently exists. If repealed, the women wouldn’t be prosecuted/jailed/executed. But if that’s a good thing, why is a PP ballot continuing to criminalize them? 🧐

This may be one of the worst moments in history to fetishize the law or the quality of being law-abiding.

It will be easy to fall into a pattern of dunking & reacting in these times. Performing disapproval can be a consuming pastime & it is not enough. Refuse to abandon vulnerable people. Build a rebellious culture of care. If you need help, @prisonculture.bsky.social and I wrote a book to assist you.

The abortion rights field is trying to play both sides with bodily autonomy. Protect self determination AND the state’s power to *regulate* decision-making and police pregnancy.

This simply has not and cannot work.
