From what I have read yes. But it seems that the translators of these authors are often the same. Debate seems to be around stylistic preference and interpretation. But that often makes it difficult to select which translation should be attempted first.

I have been wanting to dip into more of his work. However, I've discovered that there is quite a debate about the translation of his novels.

Yeah, I think that his works being considered "classics" can be off putting due to certain connotations. But for the most part his writing seems contemporary. I don't feel that I am reading literature written 150 years ago.

I agree. I came to Dostoevsky with minimal knowledge of his works, only opinions expressed by others on its cultural status. So far what I have read is deeply sympathetic and vulnerable. I found the section on Lizaveta in B.K very moving.

However, after just finishing Crime and Punishment, and having started Brothers Karamazov, I understand the praise.
