It's become highly cited in recent years among the evidence-informed teaching community, but I can't find it. Unfortunately I lack institutional access to journals/databases now.

The paper might also be called "Systematic Instructional Procedures". I see it cited both ways frequently.

I'm looking for a copy of this paper:

Education professors scored no better than physics or business faculty on basic learning science, raising serious questions about teacher preparation programmes.

‘Cognitive Science,’ All the Rage in British Schools, Fails to Register in U.S. Educators blame this ‘reverse Beatles effect’ on America’s decentralized system and grad schools that are often hostile to research.

Fantastic article. The good news is that the USA is waking up to the science of learning when it comes to reading. It's only a short leap to start realizing that science applies to all learning, not just reading. www.the74million.org/article/cogn...

ChatGPT - Lighthouse Pub Refuge Shared via ChatGPT

I just sat in shock for a moment after reading a descriptive narrative I asked ChatGPT to write off of a vague idea I had. My Wife had to ask if I was okay. No, I'm not. AI might have written my favorite descriptive narrative of all time...

LANDMARK Victory! GPO and WEP repealed | NEA A win forty years in the making, NEA secures full retirement benefits for educators

Oh thank goodness. I'm a while away from retirement, but this is a huge relief. Now I'll actually get all of the social security I spent 20 years paying into.

Certainty of consequence is much more important as a deterrent than severity. This is a general truism of human behavior.

Repeal Unfair Social Security Penalties | NEA Pass the Social Security Fairness Act to fully repeal GPO/WEP.

This is an important issue for educators in California and similar states with WEP. I myself moved states, which is already devastating for teacher pensions, but moving from a state where I paid into SS and into one where I lose it is salt in the wound.

A social media ban in Australia for children under 16 will be first in the world A social media ban for children under 16 will become first law in the world to levy fines on TikTok, Facebook, Snapchat, Reddit, X and Instagram for allowing youth accounts.

As a school administrator and educator who has seen the damaging effects of social media on youth, I support this wholeheartedly. I enthusiastically urge American legislators to follow suit.

Interesting. I do worry about the block/mute/filter culture leading to too much social siloing. As we all retreat into bubbles where we never have to interact with people who disagree with us, we're likely to end up seeing even more polarization and enmity for "the other side".

I just submitted a bug report for it, so I guess I'll just put a pin in this one and come back in a few days and see if anyone has fixed it.

So strange that when I click it, it prompts me to join BlueSky instead of adding people. I had this issue with another starter pack. I wonder if it has to do with different international versions of BlueSky.

I created this graphic for my students to discuss the importance of effective study strategies in addition to other factors such as pastoral support, attendance & effort.

What else would you add?

Sleep, exercise, nutrition, monitoring screen time, awareness of distractions ...

The False Promise of Device-Based Education A reevaluation of screens in schools

EdTech for EdTech's sake is a pet peeve of mine. Having "Use of Technology" on teacher observation rubrics is ridiculous. It's all about how it's used. In really, much EdTech has probably been detrimental to education.

Now that I know more about the Bible, it's amazing to me how many common idioms, sayings, and classical literary references come from it. It's difficult to fully understand the society we live in without that knowledge.

FYI I'm still not even remotely Christian and I still believe this.

Unpop. Opinion- I think it's desirable to teach parts of The Bible as literature in public schools. My own upbringing was not religious at all, and so I found myself lost and oblivious whenever biblical references were used (as they very often are). I wish school had taught me that stuff.

Writing is one of the highest cognitive load activities we ask kids to do. As practiced adults we underestimate that. It sounds to me like your students need more scaffolding with the task because they're too cognitively overloaded by it to focus on answering the question.

You need to model scientific writing for them, especially at first. Your first few science writing activities of the year should be done together, and then they should be provided scaffolded practice. Writing instruction needs to be explicit.

I fear we are at that part of the historical cycle where we are doomed to repeat the math wars, yet again. First it was "New Math" from 1950's & then the 1989 NCTM Standards. These ideas are rehashed in the new California Math Framework & the national curricula being built around it.

Oh man, this would be amazing. Moving states is already so devastating to teacher pensions, but it's doubly so when you move from a state where you pay into social security into one like California with the WEP.
