Doctors and scientists are running for office, motivated by concerns over health policy, anti-science movements, and cuts to social programs.

A question for law professors: If I were to put on an academic conference here at Stanford about Fourth Amendment law—featuring papers about 4th Amendment law, and discussions re them—how much interest would there be in attending? Maybe in January, when it's an extra good time to visit California.

President Donald Trump said Republicans should nationalize elections. While he didn't elaborate, it would be a departure from the state-run system.
Newly released documents reveal more information about Jeffrey Epstein's ties to celebrities and world leaders.
In an era of smartphones, Americans don't have to believe federal officials or journalists. They can watch what happened for themselves.
Courts are holding firm, recognizing the constitutional limits on executive power. For a president to threaten prosecutions that cannot come, and post provably false claims on social media is not a sign of strength -- it's a sign of weakness. /END
The good news is it isn't working. Our public servants are standing up for voters. The 2026 election is going to be the most secure and accessible one yet, thanks to them. Election officials and others are not going to be prosecuted, even if the feds want them to fear authoritarian power. /10
Only they can answer this question, but I fear that they use this rhetoric as authoritarians do -- to scare good people and intimidate them from doing the right thing. /9
So why is the President of the United States threatening our public servants, who performed so admirably in running our elections, with prosecutions that won't be coming and cannot be successful? Why have they sat on their hands and let the statute expire if they truly thought there were crimes? /8
Third, there's a 5 year statute of limitations that applies to any alleged crime that could have occurred. Under any interpretation, that has run. The administration knew this - hell, the AAG for Civil Rights has even tweeted about it - and done nothing, because there's nothing there. /7
The FBI would surprise the alleged criminal in an early morning arrest. As a former DOJ attorney, I can assure you this is not how any prosecutor with a real indictment for a real crime would operate. /6
Second, if the gov't truly found a conspiracy and federal crimes, they wouldn't repeatedly announce prosecutions are coming. To do so would risk evidence tampering and criminals fleeing jurisdiction. /5
The integrity of the 2020 election - with record turnout during a global pandemic - remains one of the greatest achievements in American history. /4
When those who lied about the election were sued for defamation -- Giuliani, Lake, Lindell, Fox News -- they failed to even present a shred of evidence to support their lies, some even conceding liability, to the tune of nearly $1 billion in awards. /3
Why? First, there is no crime. The 2020 election was the most scrutinized election in world history, reviewed by dozens of courts, and dozens of judges, including those appointed by Trump. Every single time, no significant problems or fraud was found. /2
Today, for the umpteenth time, the President made vague threats that prosecutions re: the 2020 election were about to come. Make no mistake -- this is NOT going to happen. /1
The Supreme Court's decison on President Trump's abilty to fire a member of the Federal Reserve could have big consequences for the economy.
Some perspective: The S&P opened down -1.3% on Trump's Greenland saber-rattling. That's $750 billion of wealth destroyed -- roughly equal to estimates of the value of Greenland.
And so ~in dollar terms~ his shenanigans have already cost the US one Greenland, and we've got nothing to show for it.
5/ CBP One was converted to “CBP Home,” an app that "helps" immigrants “self-deport.” Revocation of parole isn’t the same as a deportation order & this email does not initiate deportation proceedings. Anyone who has received this may still have options & should talk to an immigration lawyer NOW
4/ It appears that mass emails like the one I received have gone out to everyone who processed their parole through CBP One. I was, of course, not one of those people! The system doesn’t let you include an attorney’s contact info, so we still have no idea how I ended up on the list.
CBP One app
3/ One of the many ways that the Biden administration tried to manage asylum seekers at the border was through the “CBP One” app. It had all kinds of problems, but it did still help a lot of people enter the United States legally to seek protection
DHS immigration parole stamp
2/ Immigration "parole" has nothing to do with criminal parole, but it's the same idea. It's a form of managing lawful entry into the US, just the way that the parole system manages release of prisoners back into their communities after they have served their time. It is "legal" immigration.
Email from DHS to unknown recipient, received by Nicole Micheroni
1/ I never took DHS's scary-sounding notice that I had 7 days to leave the country too seriously, because it was obviously some kind of mistake. But what about the people the emails were actually aimed at? Let's talk a bit about immigration "parole" and what Trump is doing here
“I didn’t really expect to do this," said Allie Mitchell, 30, a former research supervisor at the National Institute on Aging. "I never thought I’d have to go to my Senators’ offices and say ‘I got fired. What are you going to do for me?’” www.usatoday.com/story/news/p... via @usatoday.com
