Age verification is coming for the internet — and it’s already raising red flags Legislative efforts to age-gate parts of the internet are gaining traction. Some experts warn of compliance complications and data security breaches.

“Why would we, ... in the name of protecting people, create a whole other legal mandate that requires the collection and storage of even more personally identifying information that would be subject to either data thieves or data breaches?” EFF’s @aaronmackey.bsky.social told @nbcnews.com.

Just read a thing saying doctors worked harder in 2008 than they do now. As someone who qualified in 2010, I can’t speak for 2008. But there’s no way I worked harder back then than resident doctors are working now.

Who do you think absorbs NHS pressure at the moment? The staff.

It’s funny how politicians bleat on about market economics and the need to be competitive, but all of that stops when it comes to public worker pay.

They need to get real - we’re losing doctors to countries overseas where the doctors are paid better. It’s as simple as that.

@responsiblesci.bsky.social time for UK to prioritise real human security through more climate action, health & welfare. Better for jobs than military spend too. Quoted piece estimates only 20% of mil budget actually for defence of UK.

When Labour next tell you there is no money left and that's why they can't help people to heat their homes, show them this.

This is not exactly revolutionary for any sane person.

Mild scandi socialism. Whats so scary about this?

Jeez. Labour MP’s have just voted to give police unprecedented powers to ban recurring protests turning a fundamental freedom into a privilege granted by the state.

No protest movement has ever brought about change through one single march or action. How did it come to this?

My grandfather, Labour MP and CND co-founder Tony Greenwood, on a Ban the Bomb March from Aldermaston to London in 1963. He would be spinning in his grave at what the Labour party has become under Keir Starmer.

Senior NHS officials warned staff over criticising rollout of Palantir platform Ethical objections and uneven adoption have made the tech group’s contract a divisive issue within English health service

“If you criticise Palantir’s platform one more time, you are going to lose your job.”

Solidarity to all NHS workers opposing this toxic corporation. Shame on those bullying them. But they won’t stop us. We’re going to ditch Palantir.

Mahmood’s migration changes will deliver fraction of claimed savings, data suggests Exclusive: Analysis of government figures indicates public finances will gain £600m not £10bn if migrants’ access to benefits is reduced

Andrea Egan, UNISON general secretary: "These changes to migration rules are cruel and unnecessary. And these figures show the economic argument is a long way from stacking up.

"Migrant workers make a huge contribution to the UK and public services would collapse without them.

Read the concerns from the cross-sector meeting we convened in Parliament in which we together with experts, unions warn the Govt’s “earned settlement” plans will harm families, public services & the economy without delivering the claimed benefits.

Even if they did save what's claimed the proposals should be scrapped. Cere system etc already failing. Also asylum seekers should be allowed to work and pay taxes.

'Maybe we are doomed to sit on an ever-higher pile of weapons until the rising seas close over us as the last forests burn.' Andress

'Only when the last tree has been cut down, the last fish been caught, and the last stream poisoned, will we realize we cannot eat money.' Cree prophecy.

And, for the love of god, try to understand that if we take the money we should be spending on climate mitigation, and spend it on weapons, then we are guaranteeing the extinction of the "national way of life" we declare ourselves ready to die to protect.

In 2024, as @greenparty.org.uk co-leader and newly elected MP I pushed for rent controls to be included in the Renters’ Rights Bill, but Labour wouldn’t listen.

This Saturday, I’ll join thousands of tenants, and 50+ unions and grassroots groups, to demand rent controls now.

I don't know why this is so hard for some people to grasp. If we extend our use of fossil gas, rather than going all-out for grid batteries, heat pumps and induction hobs, we extend our dependence on *foreign* sources of gas, regardless of whether we also use the UK's last remaining reserves. 🧵

Sir Keir Starmer has been specifically named in a UN report for complicity in Israel's genocide.

The report states that the UK government played "a key role in military collaboration with Israel... a collective crime... with detailed knowledge and cooperation in the destruction of Gaza." 🧵

Why Europe’s energy prices could stay high even if the Iran war ends Energy prices in Europe could stay high for a while, even though the region doesn’t rely heavily on the Strait of Hormuz. Here’s what’s behind it.

Rising oil and gas costs have already added as much as $111bn to consumer bills according to 350.org.

Damaged infrastructure and ongoing disruption mean "fossilflation" may be here to stay.

Security now depends upon homegrown, renewable energy🧪

At least 254 killed in Israel’s devastating attacks across Lebanon Israel carries out 100 strikes across Lebanon in 10 minutes, health minister says hospitals overwhelmed with victims.

Where to find the words anymore?

What to say when Israel continues to behave like this?

And no condemnation at all from the UK Government. They carry on business as usual as if Israel aren't carrying out genocides in both Gaza and Lebanon.

Absolutely the UK should refuse to support the US in striking Iranian civilian infrastructure.

I just hope Starmer can actually stick to it. Somehow I doubt it.

Nice said that the 'rulebook' had never really existed for the big countries / powers. As no small country could realistically hold a large powerful one to account. And that multiple breaches of humanitarian law committed in British Empire.
