When writing to a fixed capacity medium (like a ring buffer), and the buffer is full, you have three choices:

* Pop the oldest data
* Lock up until space is available
* Drop the newest data

In this paper I will explore the tradeoffs of the "Pop, Lock, and Drop it" options...
