Publishers’ AI battle hits Internet Archive SF organization losing access to some news content

“We are collateral damage.” - Mark Graham, Wayback Machine

When preservation is caught in the crossfire, it’s not just libraries that lose—it’s the public’s access to history, knowledge, and truth.

The web shouldn’t disappear behind closed doors.

In April 2024, Spotify implemented a new scheme: songs with less than 1k streams per year would no longer receive royalties.

The data for 2025 was just released via Luminate, and 88% of songs have been demonetized.

Read it again: 88% of songs on Spotify have been demonetized.

That reflect **a sundowning man** stuck in adolescence. He was like this before he got the job. Say it like it is.

The future of search isn’t Google — and it’s $10 a month Paying for a search engine is a lot to ask, but you might not have a better option anymore.

It’s always nice to see an upstart service you appreciate get their flowers.

Kagi works so well that I only think about it when I accidentally send a query to Google. They also love to celebrate their growth with their users. www.theverge.com/web/631636/k...

Tech continues to be political And the politics aren't looking great

That @miriam.codes shared why being “in tech” in 2025 is depressing, and if we’re going to stick around, we need to remember why we’re here. This all resonates with me so much and I want to basically quote the whole article. Worth your time: www.miriamsuzanne.com/2025/02/12/t...

Well, actually, “Nosferatu” is the first-person plural. “Ustedferatu” is the third-person singular formal, befitting a person of his lineage and nobility.

Cabel Sasser, Panic - XOXO Festival (2024)
Cabel Sasser, Panic - XOXO Festival (2024) YouTube video by XOXO Festival

I gave a talk at the final XOXO conference.

At first, I thought I'd revisit my first talk from ten years ago. But it turned into something different. Something about life, and art, and… McDonalds?

19 minutes. Try to go in without spoilers and watch until the end. 🙏

Sewer people, I've been here before
With shredded splinters on the floor
You see, I tried to use nunchucks before my katana
And I've smelled your pizza from the box
But those toppings are no work of art
They're a gross and they're a nasty cowabungaaa 🎵

Half a million people in London right now. Jewish activists in New York last night. Polls in both countries overwhelmingly support a ceasefire in Gaza. Cannot imagine this level of support even five years ago. Whatever happens, the Palestinians are no longer alone.
