On the official #Artemis broadcast, astronaut Victor Glover, just minutes before the 40min comms blackout, invoked "love thy neighbor as yourself" as a key teaching of Jesus Christ, and it would be surprising in times like these if this wasn't reason enough for MAGA to crash out over "wokism & DEI".

I simply fail to understand where @revmagdalen.bsky.social wrote anything that you think could be construed as evidence they're "clearly a little bit of a fascist". They explicitly affirmed human rights for everyone, and Palestinians/Gazans in particular.

You seem to be one of those who believe the first one to call fascism in an argument wins that argument by default, because clearly, you have no fucking idea what the term means if you think you've spotted it here. (I also think you're misgendering your vis-à-vis if you address them as "Mr.")

No offense, aber das sind einfach nur größere Lagerfeuer verglichen mit dem, was sie im Lungau abbrennen...

Well, this thread did it. I'm finally that guy.

The law applies to both military and civil courts. Yes, military ones will likely handle most of these cases, and no, I don’t believe they offer due process. That said, not even these proceedings are equivalent to mobs executing people for their skin color, w/out any process and often w/out charges.

Have read it now and gotta say, the article is actually pretty good (thanks in part, of course, to your quotes), as is the Interview with Brigitte Temel, who conducted the first pilot study on Incels in Austria. Would not have expected read that kind of piece @ Krone.

Why, thanks for ethnicizing the discussion, but if we must: my ass is actually Austrian, and is commonly considered German by Nazis only today. The death penalty is wrong, period. Also wrong: implying the victims of lynchings experienced anything resembling due process under Jim Crow.

I wasn’t the one who made the pins key evidence in the case for the death of Israeli democracy. And I find your use of “lynching” historically inaccurate and wildly insensitive. But that’s your call, and it's way past midnight where I live. Good night.

I never said there were "just 6" people supporting this, and I am well aware the problem extends beyond Ben Gvir's party. I said it was far from a majority that displayed those pins, but mainly, I didn't share the conclusion the original post drew from the pinwearing.

Yes, that is a very sorry state of affairs, to put it mildly. I wasn't arguing that. I was arguing whether that meant Israeli democracy was a lost cause

Not my point at all. I was objecting to the argument that this particular incident was definite proof Israeli democracy was a lost cause.

The law got 62 out of 120 votes (which is 62 votes too many, but hardly "the entire democratic edifice") and can still be overturned by the Supreme Court.

Sure, there’s been a hard-right majority in place for some time. My point is that if such a majority, the death penalty, and individual MPs displaying atrocious symbolism mean writing off an entire nation, that does not bode well for the U.S., where checks and balances are even more out of whack rn.

Setting aside that Israel is still a country with an independent Supreme Court, what an uplifting message for the masses that have been protesting Netanyahu & co. for years now to have their entire nation judged by what a 6-person faction wore to the Knesset. Maybe do the #NoKings protesters next.

Well, sure, but from a far-right perspective, heroically masculine lives do end prematurely, the weak (including infants) shall perish, inequality is nature's way, dangerous classes should be imprisoned (or executed/deported), and women in the workforce are an abomination. So… the 🇺🇸 wins, I guess.

Oh! Not exactly a regular reader, but need to check that out. Krone has long been called the most-read daily worldwide, relative to number of inhabitants. A third of Austrians used to read it then.

Magyar on stage with a huge Hungarian flag

T-14 days until the Hungarian election. 🇭🇺🗳️

In this thread, I discuss Magyar's prospects of success in restoring (liberal) democracy (if he wins) and will tell you he's not the saviour you might think he is (but that he’s still good enough for now). 🧵 1/

Instead of repeatedly making himself the story, Theroux could have brought in the expertise of women who’ve actually researched this phenomenon and—beyond asking what shaped these guys and why boys idolize them—looked at what it does to people (of any gender). 2/2

Curious what others think.

Watched that Louis Theroux Manosphere doc on Netflix and came away underwhelmed. If you give these guys—who literally live off attention of any kind—TONS of airtime on a big platform with little pushback or context, hoping they’ll expose themselves, the analytical payoff needs to be much higher. 1/2

I’m not sure whose consciousness you’re referring to exactly, but unless you mean “people who became politicized in 2023,” that seems like a spectacularly ahistorical take—even if we set aside colonial war crimes committed and justified by Western armies and just look at Vietnam, Iraq, Libya, etc.

Also, CPAC USA features 3 speakers from Iran this year. Clearly, that war has to be sold hard to the MAGA faithful. Among the invitees: Reza Pahlavi, introduced as "Crown Prince" and "the preeminent transitional leader of the Iranian opposition" (somewhat controversial to say the least). 3/3
