If you get an email like this, double check the email address it's coming from, check the real person's social media to see if they've posted a warning, and don't give the person reaching out to you a dime. (They don't ask for money in the initial email but I'm sure that's where this is going.)

Scammers are posing as real, existing reps pretending to express interest in manuscripts. Two of my rep friends have been impersonated & one author friend received a fraudulent request from someone posing as a real editor. Be careful out there!
You don't need to meet decision-makers right now. You need to find your people - the ones who text you when they hear about an opening, who recommend you when they can't take a gig, who champion your work because they believe in it. That's a network. And you can build it authentically, today.

Here is an easy solution:
Food stains are humiliating, as they suggest you're a little baby who can't feed themselves.
Oil stains, such as those you'd get from working on your car, suggest you're tough, independent, and skilled.
Thus, simply cover your food stains with used motor oil.
They are all cut from the same predatory cloth, that's for sure.

The specific allegations against Swalwell aside….this response reflects a very pervasive (but wrong) belief. Most sexual violence is relational and survivors keeping contact w/ their assailants is very common and not necessarily discrediting (esp when there’s a power imbalance)
