I strongly oppose the expansion of copyright powers that AI opponents have promoted. I disagree with the idea that there is no environmentally responsible way for anyone to use AI. I think that some really cool things can be done with AI. I think it has a place in art.

But I'm sick of the moral panic which has reached an unhinged tenor on bsky. On here, you can't talk about researching AI or using AI tools for anything without being accused of copyright infringement, ecological devastation, even soullessness by people who don't know what they are talking about.

I've mostly put up with dogmatically anti-AI folks because I get where they're coming from. Bad and wasteful AI products are being pushed on us from all directions. Google now aggressively misinforms people, social platforms are filled with bots, executives think they can replace their staff.
