That’s definitely what I’m thinking but I would say it’s safe to assume that whomever it was is from NJPW management. They value the relationship with AEW to strengthen their US presence (not gonna comment on whether it’s working or not…)
He apologized at the end of the broadcast. Not sure if it was a work or if he went into business for himself. I won’t even try to guess at what he was trying to accomplish. It happened and it’s largely a non-issue in my eyes
BUT, I do think it’s ridiculous to criticize Tony for signing the Elite. They were leaving NJPW regardless whether is was for upstart AEW or to WWE. If you’re starting a company, why wouldn’t you want the best singles wrestler and tag team on your roster?

Like I said, I didn’t mind Chris’s comments at all. He’s free to say whatever he likes. Now if it gets him in hot water with management then I’d advise against it. For all I know he could have been trying to add some heat to the “rivalry” since the show was lacking in proper story build
