I had a conversation with a friend the other day about how some people just don’t actually like The Character™️. Like it’s okay to subvert canon in fics, that’s what they’re for. But canon is… I mean it’s there. It’s a blueprint to bounce off of. Why *are* they there if they don’t like it?
1.) Holy fucking shit (but also that kind of feels like a no brainer and I was only a casual watcher) 2.) Yeah like. Idk some of the stuff that’s happened here is fucking awful in a very specific way. Like you wanna make friends but doing that is kind of like a game of “the floor is lava”
Honestly it’s fascinating. Like it would be interesting to try and figure out why but people have gotten hurt over this, which is what makes it scary. Like idk, I was in other fandoms where I was able to be friends with people with different top/bottom preferences and such but this fandom scares me.
Yeah no I read an account where a project accepted multiple minors into it, NSFW was allowed, all participants knew this, the minors were complaining because the adults were talking about like drinking after work or something? Idk it could have been prevented.
I do think at one point it was easier to have mixed age spaces, but at this point things just seem so volatile.
I block minors on sight, but I’m kind of referring to a few projects I’ve seen where minors where admitted and then people complained later that they weren’t accommodating enough to them which feels… idk. The show itself is pretty intense. But I do agree, arguing with children is a bad look—
-being invited to 18+ spaces because I do feel like a lot of this would be avoided if we just drew a harder line and made more spaces that were for adults. Like why are kids even watching this? Or demanding we edit objectively mature fics to their tastes?
Eh. I mean, I do think it’s alarming that people have primed actual kids to think censorship is okay. I know they can’t help it because they’re probably being told to act like that by adults in their lives, but I also think we shouldn’t normalize that behavior. I also don’t get why minors are-
I’m not saying there aren’t good faith conversations worth having, but there are only so many conversations about fiction that can be had before real world activism needs to happen, away from the screen. And tbh, most of the accounts I’ve seen seem like they just want to silence hcs they don’t like.
Sometimes I think there are people who are convinced that the point of fandom is to argue or be critical, as though it is some form of activism (hate to rain on their parade, but it isn’t really). That wasn’t how it used to be. Fandom used to be mainly folks who liked the thing and a couple trolls.
