Not parenting, but I remain stunned by the workmate who complimented me on the cake I made and said
"I never would have thought you could bake because, you're, you know..." at which point several of her colleagues interrupted with horror to cut her off

I think the winner was the person that said to me wife, when I took our son and our niece to playground "that's really great she helps out"
It seems they'd just invented a whole narrative in their head i was a late on the scene stepmother....

Maybe the phrase "if you don't have anything nice to say..." needs to be modified for some people to "if you don't have anything that's not stupid to say"
