The development of wide-bodied airliners such as the Boeing 747 in the 1960s stimulated the design of a new generation of large aeroplane engines called turbofans. Engines like this power most of the aircraft now flying, because they are quieter and more fuel efficient than other types.
Rolls-Royce had been trying to break into the US airliner market for years and contracted with Lockheed to develop the engines for its own wide-body rival, the L-1011 TriStar.

This particular engine was the sixth built. It made 28 flights on the prototype TriStar during 1971. The general design proved to be a great technical success and revived Rolls-Royce's fortunes. So what's one today's #dailyProgress menu?
Well I finished the rear shock absorber, changed the spring and topoed the lower part together. Then I got started on the front axle (proud of that piece) and modeled the mudguard.
I also added a piece to the frame.
So tomorrow it's either headlight or tyre
